Cairo Magazine: Congratulations N_E_A on your victory here in Egypt! You have absolutely stunned everyone, beating two top 6 players 76 in the final set in successive rounds! How were you able to outlcass such high calibre players when it counted most?
Not_Even_Amateur: Thankyou. I am not sure really; I have built up a lot of confidence on clay recently and I think that played a part. Also, the fact that I was a slight underdog in both matches (or, at least, I told myself I was!) played into my hands...I played as though I had nothing to lose in those two tiebreaks and it came off. I just stuck to my game and played as I had through the whole tournament; solid clay court tennis...it worked and I couldn't be more pleased nor confident going into the French Open!
Cairo Magazine: Who do you think's the favourite heading into the French Open? Do you consider yourself a major contender now, since you have beaten Top 10 players on the surface?
Not_Even_Amateur: I wouldn't looks past Tricatrina for the title; for me, she will win it. Bizet is right up there though and John Edelstein has an opportunity to take the crown. To be honest, I have strongly fancied my chances for months now; ever since the clay season began and even before that. I think on my day, in fact I know, on my day I can beat anyone on clay. My movement is second to none on the tour and if EVERYTHING goes right for me, I am capable of beating the best. However, with seeing the draw I do not like my chances. In fact, I will go as so far to say: I will not get past the RD 16 this year, I even doubt I will make it that far. PSALT is a great player, perhaps clay is not his best surface, but you can never expect an easy match against PSALT. If, and it is a big if, I overcome PSALT I then move on to the favourite: Trictrina, her experience will defeat me, I have no doubt! But I will give it my all and if it is my day I feel I have a reasonable chance!
Cairo Magazine: Thanks, N_E_A, and we hope your run at the French Open will be one to remember!
