The women's final is tonight (8:00 for me): Venus vs. Peer. Should be a very interesting match. It will be good to see Venus playing again and if she wins this I believe it is a very good sign after not playing really since Wimbledon.

Well, an all-Williams Wimbledon final looks very promising. 6-1 6-1 Venus over Peer in the finals. The fact that she can play top 5 tennis after not playing for months and months mind boggles me. Peer didn't play badly, in fact she played fairly well; she was just simply out-slugged. Even though this was only a tier III, things are looking very good for Venus Williams.

I think the reason why the Williams Sisters are doing so well so quickly is because their playing ability feeds on pace. In the women's game (in my opinion), too many are trying to blast the ball. I think the best way to play the Williams Sisters would be the opposite strategy- a mix of power and finesse.

I do agree, however tonight Venus was creating her own pace completely. She was practically on the service line when returning second serves. They like pace, yes (they would probably rather play Sharapova than Henin), but they don't need it if they are playing well.

I do agree. Venus was playing out of her mind tonight. Pace or not she was easily playing better than most top 10 players are at the moment. Peer played well, she was simply never given a chance to dig into the match.

Well, they are definitely the hardest hitters on tour. Again, I have to say, Serena and Venus, ability wise, should definitely be in the Top 5, at least. It's just a matter whether they have these so-called injuries or not.

This reminds me of the Australian Open final . What a fantastic win for Venus. I hope she stays fit and healthy for the rest of the year.
Venus has now won all 5 of the events she has played in her career that are under Tier 2, including this event in 1998 and 1999.

The thing is, they are not just the hardest hitters on the tour. Look at someone like Davenport (don't get me wrong, I like Davenport a lot). She can hit jsut as hard as them, yet it's not the same. Why? The Williams' are incredible athletes. With the exception of Mauresmo, they are by far the best athletes on the tour.

I agree with this. I think the Williams sisters, Mauresmo and perhaps Clijsters are the best athletes on tour. When fit though, Serena & Venus are way ahead of even Mauresmo and Clijsters. This is why they were so hard to beat in (1999/2000- some parts) 2001-2003 when they were at their very best. I don't think Davenport was ever a great athlete, she made up for that with her talent.

Jamie Murray and Eric Butorac extend their winning streak to 12 matches and 3 tournament wins (2 ATP Titles and 1 Challenger). They won the Memphis final over Julian Knowle and Jurgen Melzer 7-5 6-3. Great news! This team is red hot right now!
This was the first all-lefty doubles final since 1995.

He apparently hit 30 winners and 9 unforced errors. Haas was really good off the ground and Roddick wasn't serving very well.
