Qatar Total Open (WTA)Qatar Total Open (Tier 2)
Doha, Qatar
Tournament Website: http://www.qatartennis.org/qto2007/index.html
This tournament is the last of the stretch of events linking the Australian Open to Indian Wells. It is also the final part of the Middle Eastern Hardcourt events (Dubai, Doha) which are used by many to prepare for Indian Wells-Miami. Like Dubai, this event started in 2001. Martina Hingis won the inagrual event. Anastasia Myskina is the only two-time champion. Monica Seles, Maria Sharapova and defending champion Nadia Petrova have also won in Doha. No player has won multiple doubles titles. The defending champions are Daniela Hantuchova and Ai Sugiyama.
Justine Henin is the top seed, followed by Svetlana Kuznetsova, Martina Hingis and Jelena Jankovic. I think Henin has a good shot at the title. Hopefully Hingis can have a good run but I get the feeling she is slowly losing grip of her top 10 ranking.
In the doubles, Hantuchova/Sugiyama are top seeds, followed by Sydney Champions Groenefeld/Shaughnessy. [/u]

I feel pathetic as I am the only person even posting in these threads.
So far today,
Jankovic def Bondarenko 6-3 6-3
Kuznetsova def Schiavone 6-3 6-4
Hantuchova def Hingis 1-6 6-4 6-4
Hingis was up 6-1 4-1, horrible loss for her.

Too bad Hingis lost it like that (to Hantuchova). She should have honestly gone through... well, I guess Kuznetsova-Hantuchova will be interesting, although I do expect Kuznetsova to overpower Hantuchova. Jankovic can be tricky for Henin, but I expect Henin to do just fine.

I do think Hantuchova will win. Sveta has not been great so far. In all of her matches she gets up an early break, then gets broken back. This has happened in all of her matches almost, she has been unable to hold a break throughout a set. I think eventually she will have to pay for that.

Henin takes the title over Kuzy.
Hingis/Kirilenko were devastating in their last two matches. They took the doubles crown.
