Bartoli is the top seed, she will hope to rebound after a thumping 2 and 0 at the hands of Bremond in the first round of Tokyo. Maria Kirilenko is seeded second, she could have a potentially tricky opener against Pratt. Molik is also in the draw, she was given a WC. If seeds hold,

Nice, Alicia Molik 2 and 2. I think Maria K can take the crown. I wouldn't have thought that Bartoli would be the #1 seed?!

It's time for Benchie's almost weekly rant and spill of emotion over a Makiri loss:
MARIA!!!! WHY!!! .<---do you see that little dot i'm pointing to, You were that close THAT CLOSE!!!!!!
i'm gonna change my sig to another Pantera quote that sort of fits this situation

I honestly feel a bit bad for her... she deserves at least some better results than she's getting....

Well she doesn't deserve them if she can't play constantly

Like leftys asked, did she have match points? This reminds me of Moscow last year.
I hate Pratt.

She apparently was up 3-1 in the third.

Austrian Sybille Bammer won her first WTA title, winning a thriller against 6th seed Gisela Dulko 7-5 3-6 7-5. At this event last year, she reached her first SF and only recently reached a second SF in Hobart (beating Serena Williams on the way). This was Dulko's second singles final (after Hobart 2005). She is still without a WTA singles title.
2nd seeds Nicole Pratt and Mara Santangelo won the doubles title, beating Australian Open finalists and top seeds Yung-Jan Chan and Chia-Jung Chuang 6-4 7-6. This continues Pratt's great start to 2007.

Surprising doubles win
But I must say it is incredible for Bammer for Austria to win her first WTA title. This is huge for Austrian womens tennis. Tough loss for Gisela Dulko. She is on her way and the right track. Soon I think she will be able to capture a WTA title
