Wow. Interesting prospect. I like the idea of shot-spot, but i'm not sure if this coaching thing is going to work. I would think that the addition of just shot-spot to the USO Series would be a big enough change already, even without coaching.

Very interesting...I disagree with oncourt coaching, as when it's match time, it should be an individual sport....

It's an intresting move. It will help younger players. But coaching should be done before the match not during

Yes, the mental challenge of tennis is huge; coaching will totally eliminate it.

I think tennis is looking to shake things up, and at least bring back some interest in the sport in the US. Even though this move would help the players and make so many one sided matches more competitive, I still love the fact that in tennis it's just you out there all by yourself. You have to do all the decision making on your own. It's what separates it from many other sports. Tennis is a very demanding sport mentally and physically, and adding on court coaching cheapens it a lot in my book.

Yes with the online coaching it does kill an important aspect of tennis. What seperates it from most sports

It might also create some conflicts. Like, players sharing coaches (Botertelli) might get upset that a particular coach goes on court with one player more than others....

What players are sharing coaches???

For example, the Botertelli players. Botertelli coaches like 13 different players. Like, he doesn't travel anymore, but can you imagine how mad Courier was 15 years ago when Botertelli was travelling basically only with Agassi? This oncourt coaching stuff can create some antagonism. It's also not fair; tennis, as Federer said, should be like an exam. The mental game is the biggest challenge; this is getting rid of that element.

On court coaching changes the game of tennis completely.
Damn! I have to agree with Federer on this one!

I don't think it's a good idea

Do you mean Nick Boliteri?

No, the multiple coaching systme is fine. It's just that coaching might spark antagonism between players and coaches/or other players. Like, which player should the coach support if the two players meet in a round or play at the same time?

I think Ivan Ljubicic and Novak Djokovic also share a coach. Riccardo Piatti has been with Ljubicic since his junior days in Italy and has started working part time with Djokovic. They played earlier in the year in the Zagreb SF, Ljubicic won in 3 sets. I guess Piatti would have supported Ljubicic in his home country.

Yes, that could create antagonism between Djokovic and Ljubicic so easily....

I'm guessing it's not to bad if he was a part time coach

I guess so, but can you imagine how furious a player would be...:
"Coach, so you're coming on court for my match now, right?"
"Oh, sorry, John's got a match in 30 minutes, so I've got to head over there."
