Old school controversy?I was reading some of the comments on peter bodos blog and someone said "Of course the Capriati-Justine semifinal will live on in the hall of shame for New Yorkers." Does anyone know what happened here? It seems justine gets into these things a lot at grand slam semis. Just curious...

that was when justine fought through the match in the third set tiebreaker and had to go on IV fluids afterwards......she ended up winning the USO....this shows that if justine can fight through THAT match, why couldnt she fight through the AO final with tummy troubles?

Wow, i never knew that. Good point tho, maybe she just doesnt have the drive for it as much anymore. But why did the poster say its a shame for new yorkers? I'm guessing they were jeering HH and cheering capriati.

Yes....I'm not sure why that match was shameful.

I read your post just now....I like it. Someone did get onto your case on the French crowd right after....

oh well, i apologized for that inaccuracy ......what i posted is mostly my personal feelings on watching tennis on tv.....it may not be the case for everybody....like the long rallys.....

Well, it's nice to have long rallies, but I don't really like matches in which every single point is long (Ex. Coria vs. Nadal, Italy, although that was a fantastic match).

I dont agree 'Topspin is the key to Roland Garros'...
Just because Davenport hasent won Roland Garros before, she has still been very successful on clay. She even won her first title on clay. Yes, topspin can be better than flatter hitting on clay, but if you can hit flat so consistently like Lindsay, it makes no difference. 1-2 punches do work on clay, you just have to be more precise. Lindsay has some of the best angles out there and the ability to move the ball around.
I dont think claycourt tennis has to be very long, it is just long because all the claycourters play that style of counterpunching. Tim Henman serve & volleyed his way to the French Open semis...it dosent have to be long...

The crowd at Roland Garros are dreadful. Did anyone see Grosjean v Nadal?, they booed for ages and ages, then finally stopped. Nadal was put off and lost his first set of the championship. They wouldnt top cheering in any of JHH's matches. Even when JHH was 6-4 4-1 up over Sharapova, they still were cheering and doing their mexican wave. They dont listen to the umpire or anything, they do their own thing and disrupt play...Nothing like that would happen at any other slam...

yes i remeber that. i also remeber the bad call or whatever and grojsean gave a up to the crowd for helping get the call, which i thought grojsean was wrong

The Parisian fans are really quite strange. I've never seen a crowd which boos anyone regardless of who they are and which nation they are from. I wouldn't say they are always a bad crowd, but I think they're a demanding crowd.

Yes. It's too bad people around the world 'hate' Americans, so to speak. Yes, the government might be bad, but that doesn't mean that the citizens are bad.
