It is great to see Gustavo Kuerten as a wildcard in the draw Hard to believe he is 30 years old now! I hope he can do some damage this week.
I picked Gaudio to win the tournament because he is a great claycourter, he has triumphed here before and I don't think Gonzalez will adjust to clay in time, I mean he probably hasen't left Australia yet and there is little time to practice.

Unfortunately, Kuerten lost both his singles matches and his doubles match. It was still good to have him back on the tour, and at least he had a competitive match with Oscar Hernandez. His current ranking is 1082, but he is targetting the top 50 by the end of the year. My pick for Gaudio messed up aswell. He pulled out with a thigh injury after losing his first match to Carlos Berlocq. That is a big shame for him because he is usually very successful this time of year and would have hoped to pick his ranking up from a lowly 39. Gonzalez proved me wrong and adjusted very well to the clay, the time difference and the new, even bigger hero status in Chile.
The Round-Robin stage has been completed now at the year's first claycourt event. The QF line-up is:
Fernando Gonzalez (1) v Albert Montanes (7)
Nicolas Massu (3) v Sergio Roitman (6)
Luis Horna (5) v Igor Andreev
Martin Vassallo-Arguello (8) v Carlos Berlocq
I hope for a Gonzalez v Massu re-match from last year. It would be interesting because Gonzalez is now the bigger hero in Chile, plus they are playing Davis Cup together next week! Massu won their SF last year 3-6 7-6 6-4 but lost in the final to Acasuso. Gonzalez has won this tournament twice and was a finalist in 2005.
The other half of the draw is alot more open. Horna v Andreev should be good. I hope Andreev can get his ranking back up on the clay because he had a great 2005 on clay. Vassallo-Arguello and Berlocq are in the doubles semi's together, so maybe a bit tense on the singles court later on.
