leftys_rock

well for sure it didnt look like the shark she uses but im not familiar w/ prince racquets so i dont noe what type it is....i have no clue why....well people have been saying that the frame of the racquet she uses is a little hard to work with....so she might have not been happy with it....im just gonna take the profile pic off for now cuz its really bugging me....

yup i took a look at those....well theres nothing in the tennis articles talking about a racquet switch but the tennis writers probably dont care about it......shes probably going to be using that in the AO so we'll be able to noe if its a permanent switch....
J-man

leftys_rock

well at the very latest we can find out at the AO(unless she pulls out because of injury) because we can see what racquet she uses....but there might be articles on the switch....on tennis warehouse does it still say that she uses the shark?? and plus it might be written on her personal/fan website....

Either way I don't think it will affect her game.

by the way the Prince O3 White Racquet is avliable for pre order at tenniswarehouse

whats the difference between the 03 and the shark that sharapova used to use??
big server
Which O3? If you're talking about the 03 shark then it's most probably got a bigger sweetspot due to the 03 technology.
J-man
the o3 white has a bigger sweet spot and is porably easier ro play with then the shark
leftys_rock
how big is the headsize?? i always thought that the shark frame looked weird...so ive never bothered to try playing with it....
J-man
100 sq in for the O3 white
leftys_rock
do u think that shes gonna play at AO?? there hasnt really been anything about her after her injury thing at the end of last year..
J-man
i hope so. she shouldn't be doing to much playing before though. since she's got that injury. so don't expect her to do much playing before AO
leftys_rock
yeah shes not playing any warm ups after pulling out of the womens hardcourts on the gold coast....its just that sometimes she gets really weird injuries....like the time she smacked her thumb against her thigh and she couldnt hold a racquet for two days, so she had to pull out of a tournament....i thought that that was a kinda weird injury....

leftys_rock

did it say WHY she smacked her thumb against her thigh?? cuz i really think that that is just a careless injury....i would have been so mad if i got that injury and couldnt play for a few days...
J-man
yeah it did. she was training
leftys_rock

like did she get mad at how she was playing or something?? cuz we usually dont smack our thumbs against our thighs....cuz i would have gotten so pissed if i had done that to myself by accident....

sharapova arrived in Melbourne today. so I assume she will play at the AO (if she doesn't pull-out at the last minute...)
J-man
most players should try to show up at AO, since it is the first GS and you need a good first impresson
Babzzzzz
| J-man wrote: | | most players should try to show up at AO, since it is the first GS and you need a good first impresson |
Yeah, true. But I would like to see them showing up if they are really fit enough to play and not because they are there for other purposes (promoting their products). It would suck if a player has committed to play and is there a couple of days before the tournament and pulls-out at the last minute because his or her injury hasn't healed enough (I'm thinking of Nadal, Agassi and Sharapova last year).
leftys_rock
yes thats a good point...my friend is addicted to watching sharpova matches so she would be so pissed if she didnt play....but i bet she can play....after all the injury was in around late december....
Babzzzzz
You mean her shoulder injury or her pectoral/chest injury (or thumb)? I remember she pulled-out of the Gold Coast tourney because of her shoulder injury. It wasn't wise of her to play that Japan-tour thing in december, because after that she withdrew immediately from the GC tourney due to her shoulder. I just hope she will be playing the AO
leftys_rock
yes cuz im a little confused whether her shoulder injury IS her pectoral injury or if its something different....yes i thought that the thumb injury was a little careless.....i would have been pretty mad to have to pull out of a tourney cuz of that
Babzzzzz
I'm sorry, I was a little confused myself too So I just checked that pectoral and shoulder thing. The right pectoral muscle is at the front of the shoulder.
leftys_rock
lol...so it would be the same thing?? the injury will probably affect her serving....
Babzzzzz
Yeah, it's the same thing. It will definately affect her serve and since it's her right shoulder, it will affect everything she does with her right arm.
leftys_rock
yup...thats probably why her serves werent as fast in the USO....

yes it is...cuz its like u went all that way just to rack up some money and promoting ur products...thats not gonna make fans very happy
J-man

espically if you play bad

yup....its gonna be a bad start to the season for her if she gets a first round bust...but she'll probably get to at least the QF....

i hope she's rested to play.

Here is Clijster's injury update from AP:
SYDNEY, Australia - Finally, some good medical news from the
Australian Open: Kim Clijsters' hip injury is not as bad as first thought and she hopes to play in the season's first Grand Slam event.
Clijsters withdrew from her quarterfinal at the Sydney International on Wednesday after hurting her left hip during warmups.
"I had an MRI scan and it's shown I have an inflammation of the hip joint and tendon," the No. 2-ranked Belgian said in a statement. "The good news is that there is no tear of the muscle. In the next couple of days I'm going to receive more treatment and do some stabilization exercises. At that point I'll have a better idea of my condition."
Paul McNamee, chief executive of the Australian Open, likes what hears, with the tournament to start Monday.
"I believe she's OK, so that's great news for us," McNamee said. "At this stage, she's playing."
That's a welcome change for McNamee. In the past week he's been on the receiving end of withdrawal messages from three top men — defending champion Marat Safin,
French Open winner Rafael Nadal and four-time Melbourne winner Andre Agassi.
Clijsters, who won her first Grand Slam at the
U.S. Open last September, said she had back problems since flying to Australia from Hong Kong last weekend.
"It's terrible," Clijsters said Wednesday. "My back has been bothering me the last few days, so I don't know if that had something to do with it — maybe compensating for my back, maybe pushing. I don't know."
The injury occurred with Clijsters' first serve during a warmup for her match against Italy's Francesca Schiavone.
Clijsters returned to competition last year following left wrist surgery and also had to fight back from a right knee strain during 2005 to win a tour-leading nine titles.

well that's great news i hope she can play well. the only thing is that, it might affect who i pick to win AO
leftys_rock
yes it will affect my decision too.....but the womens field will be a tough call....so ill probably wait until the last minute...well not that late but....it depends on the draw too....

Let's hope she recovers quickly and plays well at the Open.
leftys_rock
it might affect her movement tho.........u guys probably think im nuts, but i picked sharapova to win the AO....i know she is not the favorite at all, but im going to see if she can pick it up in the later matches....
J-man
i expect sharapova to step it up as the tournment goes on. but in her opening match she might be alittle off key (but will beat her opponent)
leftys_rock
yes sharapova is the type of person that needs to play a few matches to get into playing mode.....she just needs to get warmed up........after she had to pull out of her warm up tourney.......
J-man
but i doubt that will phase her. she knows it's going to happen (hopefully)
leftys_rock
yes she usually has nice first round matches.......like at the USO....the first two games were really tense, but then she ran away with the match.......
Babzzzzz

Hey "Leftys", remember we discussed Maria's injury (couldn't find the original thread, sorry...). I read that it isn't her pectoral shoulder muscle thing but the injury/injuries stemmed from a dislocated rib
leftys_rock
yeah i read that article too....its so weird that it took so long for her to find out what that injury really was....
Babzzzzz
Yeah, one would expect that with the money she has, she could afford good doctors

Yes, Tiger Woods makes something close to 100 million dollars worth of endorsements every year.
Babzzzzz
Sharapova earned over 18 million in 2005 and Serena came in second with 12.5 million. Still, Kournikova earns about 5 milion annually without playing professional tennis
leftys_rock
yeah..kournikova gets money without even playing.....everybody else works hard for their money.....
J-man
kournikova was a good player in'till her looks became to important

Actually, I never understood why everybody compared Sharapova with Kournikova, besided the fact their both Russian, blond etc. They have totally different character.
leftys_rock
probably just cuz theyre both what a lot of people call beautiful....but sharapova is better at tennis than kournikova.....maria is gonna get farther in tennis than anna(duh...)...
J-man
sharapova is appulad when they compare her with kournikova
leftys_rock
duh...anybody would but sharapova is going to get farther in life than kournikova....
x.doublea
According to TENNIS, Sharapova makes around $20.5 million more than Kournikova does per annum.
leftys_rock
lol...every year, it seems like sharapova gets a new endorsement
x.doublea
It's interesting to note that dispite the media attention she gets, she is second to Agassi in terms of enorsement values. That will change in a year or two .
Babzzzzz
But is she the highest paid female athlete in the world now? I believe it is estimated that Michelle Wie (golf) will become the highest paid female athlete in the coming years.
leftys_rock
i follow golf some....and michelle wie is in a little bit of a bad run now, so she is going to take a little longer to get major endorsements.....sharapova probably has enough money to buy houses at all the GS there are.....
