London may host Tennis Masters Cuphttp://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/6104184.stm
London may host the Masters Cup after Shanghai. This would be great for me, I would definetely go! But, I don't think it is the right place for it. I agree with bringing it back to Europe, but not to London. The main interest in tennis in this country is during Wimbledon and a bit after during the summer. Tennis means nothing during the winter when Football has completely taken over. I don't think London is the right place for it. About them giving China a Masters event, I also disagree. When and what surface would it be on? The Masters series are already planned out according to the calendar, I don't see the point in changing them.

Bringing the Masters Cup to London would be a good move, in my opinion. However, when we they put a Masters Series event in China? They absolutely cannot substitute Indian Wells for it... it would totally disrupt the spring hard-court season in North America. I can't think of when it could be put... the only way would be Madrid, but Madrid's a fantastic event and should not be eliminated.

I don't know about London, the UK is soccer crazed, so I could see that hurting attendance and TV ratings.
the Masters events should stay where they are. why fix something that isn't broken? there is nothing wrong with the current events, why change, just to change?

The YEC wouldbe alright in London, but I just don't think it would be as exciting as it would be in a better tennis country like France or Germany, or even Spain or Italy.
I don't know at all when a Masters event would be put in China. Indian Wells-Miami should not be broken up, they are a key part to the season, Indian Wells is one of the best ones. Obviously not during the claycourt or hardcourt seasons. Madrid and Paris are in Europe because that is where the indoor season is. So, a Masters event in China would be out of place.

I totally agree, but if they were to force it, it would be during the indoor season, since there is a short Asian tour. But I think Madrid and Paris are fantastic, and they can't abolish either one.

I don't think England is the best place for the Tennis Master cup. With Soccer (football) going on the TV and attendance wouldn't be great. Not postive for the sport of tennis. Ther is so much competeion TV wise in England, then China where it is held now. It would be hard to market.

I like the idea of moving the YEC event around every few years. Being in London right before the Olympics is not a bad idea.

Bring it to Canada please.
Just kidding.
London sounded cool at first, but if they have to compete so much, it might not be the best idea. I think a place without a GS would be best, like Spain (like the wta)
In fact i think they should have a joint YEC (ATP and WTA)

They definitely would want to put it in a place where the market demand for tennis is HUGE. That's why they're considering London... huge tennis demand there.

Tennis is big in England during the grass season. In the fall, everyone's absorbed with football. Nothing else!
However, despite of all that, I think it would be good for England as preview to the Olympics.

But would Russia be great for tourists who arrive to watch the TMC? And they really should make a new building (not that thing they use for the KC) for it.

It wouldn't be in Russia. You know, Russia's sort of in the middle of nowhere, and people would prefer places which weren't so cold in the middle of December....

I think LA was a great, cool, attractive place. The WTA would've been fine to leave it there, but Madrid is a great idea too.

The probelm was no one was attending the event... I saw a picture of Mauresmo there once... there were about 20 rows in the picture, and there was one spectator.

The Staples Center was really nice and all, but there was a lot of trouble selling tickets. Not much tennis interest in the US after all. People would much rather watch the Lakers in there. And plus, that would make 7 tournaments(mens and womens) in California alone! (Great for me, but not the best for tennis in general )

Yeah California have way too many tournaments lol....3 mens and 4 womens, and that's without the WTA Championships! I understand though since it is a very good place for tennis. But the WTA Championships were not good at all in LA.

the lack of attendance in LA was due to very poor advertisement by the WTA. I doubt half of LA even knew tennis was being played.

The weather is phenomenal here in Cali. Carlsbad and Indian Wells are very scenic as well. However, being so scenic and all, it doesn't help if nobody is there to watch!
And about the advertising, getting tickets is very complicated. You have to go through this line which has all the other sports in LA to get the tickets to tennis. And even if the Championships were advertised, everybody would be watching other sports instead.

In 2002, enough people turned up didn't they. Since then, the numbers have declined. When it was in Munich, that was pretty much a disaster aswell for some reason. I say put it back in Madison Square Garden in New York, where it was in 1977, and every year between 1979 and 2000. It was extremely successful and usually packed solid. It was the perfect place to end the season.

I think it would have a US Open feel to it, which is quite nice. The crowd is into it, NY tennis fans buy lots of tickets, etc.

I'd love to see the Masters return to MSG when that event actually meant something. Big mistake that they took this event and made it into a travelling circus over the years. On the other hand, the Masters probably deserves to be played somewhere in Europe since the Europeans are dominating tennis right now. Whatever they do, I think they need to pick a site and stay with it for 5 plus yrs. and not just sell it out to the highest bidder every 2-3 yrs. Cheapens the event which used to be the 5th biggest tourney of the season.
