Here you discuss the issues surrounding the fact that John Edelstein has hinted he may retire due to his recent poor results.
I like to state that I was quoted saying:

While this is a correct quote, my statement can be taken out of context. For the record, I like to say that I made that statement in order to push him to come back for one final season. Here are my statements before and after that statement.
...it would be better if he announces that he will come back for one final season, especially after winning recently. Bottom line and answer to your question: Yes of course he is a coward and his retirement is equivalent to someone running for cover! He is a dry character like Pete Sampras was but he is no Pete! Pete came back, (after he dropped in the standings) and won and retired at the top! Agassi did the same, Even though he did not win at the USO, he gave it his all in the 3 matches he played.

Alright then, I'll post my full quote on his contemplating retirement:
It's sad to see him contemplating his retirment. He's a great player, by far one of the greatest players still playing today, along with Vanessa Child. I guess it can get a bit tough on your body when you're that age. Tennis can be really hard on your body, so it's not really surprising that he's beginning to feel it at 30. He really doesn't enjoy the limelight though, and he's often neglected. I have a feeling that's going to happen when he retires, like, he won't receive the publicity he deserves, which would be a shame.

Not at all, Borg disappeared after a US Open finals loss to McEnroe....

Literally disappeared. Walked out of USTC and skipped the remainder of the season and never played tennis again. He was only 26 and had just dropped from No1 to No.2

Borg is one of the greatest "What ifs" in tennis, he could have EASILY won 4 more Slams and have ended up with 15 or more.

I read that he didn't even stay for the presentations because he had received a death threat prior to the final.

not yet, if he does I'm sure Dave will find out first and make a quick story about it.
