JHH out of Sydney and Australian OpenSYDNEY, 4 January 2007: Senior officials from the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour this morning informed Tournament Director Craig Watson that Justine Henin-Hardenne has had to withdraw from next week’s Medibank International.
“I was told the withdrawal was for personal reasons,” said Mr. Watson. “Obviously we are very disappointed; Justine is our defending champion and the world number one.
“I believe she is quite upset and we certainly wish her the best and hope she is able to return to the courts very soon.”
It is understood that Henin-Hardenne will be issuing a statement tomorrow.
The Medibank International 2007 continues to host the strongest field in the Tournament’s history. The direct entry cut-off now stands at 24.
Amelie Mauresmo, winner of the 2006 Australian Open and Wimbledon who arrived in Sydney last night, will take over as the top seed for the Medibank International.
Some of the other stars joining Mauresmo in the draw will be Svetlana Kuznetsova, Kim Clijsters at the start of her farewell year and Martina Hingis.

World number one Henin pulls out of Australian Open
PERTH, Australia, Jan 4 (Reuters) - World number one Justine Henin-Hardenne has pulled out of this month's Australian Open tennis tournament.
Organisers of the Jan. 15-27 event, the first grand slam of the year, confirmed the Belgian would not compete just hours after officials from the Sydney International warm-up event said she had withdrawn from their field due to "personal reasons".
The 24-year-old, who reached the final of all four grand slams in 2006 but won only in Paris, had been due to defend her Sydney title in her first appearance of the year.
Henin-Hardenne won the Australian Open in 2004 and reached the final in 2006 before quitting during the final against Amelie Maursemo.
What is this? Really? What? Is she pregnant or something?

Oh God this is dramatic! What is going on here? Not pregnancy I doubt, your first posted-article, leftys, says she was "upset"...so it is obviously family troubles of some sort. Divorce sounds very likely and, given what I have read, that would completely break Henin's heart, so the best of luck to her in this hard time: if that report is true, that is.

Yeah... I guessed divorce too after I read the first report about her being "upset" and that there would be statement issued later. I am hoping the best for her.

I really hope it is not devorce. Nobody knows too much about the Henin-Hardenne family, but we do know that they are very close and that Justine really does rely on her husband for support. After her mother's death and all that business with her father, her husband is her life. Her coach is very close to her aswell, so I hope he hasen't broke away either. This is worrying though
