Alrighty(women for me, as i'm a girl ):
First Serve: Lindsay Davenport(It actually isn't that fast, but it is placed so well)
Second Serve: Maria Sharapova(Gets some nice kick along with some pop)
Forehand: Justine Henin-Hardenne(She can hit winners from behind the baseline with it)
Backhand:
Drive - Justine Henin-Hardenne(It's a very penetrating shot, and gets a lot of power)
Slice - Amelie Mauresmo(Having such good hands, the slice stays very low and skids on the ground)
Volleys: Amelie Mauresmo(Do I need a reason? )
Footwork/Speed: Mauresmo/JHH(Both are very speedy and have good footwork to get into position to hit their shots)
Mental Toughness: JHH(She is very good at winning the big points in matches)

First Serve: Ivan Ljubicic (a very smooth action, has alot of variety)
Second Serve: Marat Safin (never misses, has an extremely good kick)
Forehand: Roger Federer (we all know this is a legendary shot in the game....if not Federer I would choose James Blake)
Backhand:
Single-handed: Ivan Ljubicic (again, a very smooth shot, lovely variety and amazing power)
Double-handed: David Nalbandian (extremely consistent shot and a huge weapon when drilled down the line)
Slice: Greg Rusedski (when used aggressively or an approach shot, it is extremely affective. The slice bites into the court and moves away from opponent)
Volleys: Tim Henman (very nice hands, is able to hit all types of volleys and is sometimes inpassable)
Footwork/Speed: Lleyton Hewitt (his footwork for every shot is perfect, never off balance)
Mental Toughness: Rafael Nadal (his intensity is frightening, he never lets go and just wares down his opponents)

x.doublea

Here would be my picks:
First Serve: Sampras (I know he's retired, but his serve's the best)
Second Serve: Sampras (who can hit a kick serve 130 mph without ever missing?)
Return: Agassi (most effective, definitely puts him in control)
Forehand: Federer (the combination of spin and pace is basically lethal)
Backhand: Agassi (for Topspin; it's a doublehander, but it's so solid), Federer (for Slice; very nice variety of the amount of spin and depth)
Volleys: Edberg (I know he has been retired for a long time, but his volleys were always the best, IMO, such great feel)
Footwork/Speed: Federer (for footwork, almost perfect positioning at all times), Hewitt (for speed, he's the fastest)
Mental Toughness: Hewitt (when he was #1, he never gave up, and he had so much intensity)

wow, forgot my own list!!
1st serve: Sampras, greatest serve ever. but in today's game probably Fed
2nd serve: Safin, same reason as dave
Forehand: Federer, if not Fed maybe Tursunov
Backhand: Gasquet, his just looks great and has sooo much spin behind it
Slice: Federer, like what x.doublea said
Volleys: Henman, great hands at net
Footwork/Speed: Hewitt, playing Hewitt was like hitting against wall at times
Mental Toughness: Nadal, he could pull himself out of a deep situation and gain momentum from any particular point, and he is just so INTENSE

First Serve: Roger Federer - Serena Williams
Second Serve: Maria Sharapova
Forehand: Roger Federer
Backhand: Lindsay Davenport (I love her backhand, so beautiful)
Volleys: Maria Sharr...wait no, Roger Federer AGAIN!
Footwork/Speed: Nadal/Blake - Venus Williams (the 2 men are brilliant, and Venus is incredible where she gets into a good spot to hit hard even off of supposed winners)
Mental Toughness: Easy - Maria Sharapova

I would say Maria's volley is improving, but to say I'd want her volley I don't know. Amelie to me is much me steady at the net.

She just has very bad insight on when to approach the net and isn't comfortable up there anyway unless the ball is sitting up. There was this point in the USO final where she just stomped up there after hitting a neutral groundstroke and (yes she won the point anyway) was very fortunate that Henin missed and the ball went wide.

True, but remember that half-volley to save game point? I remember it vividly! Really good volley, really showed how her hard work on it really paid off this summer.

even still, it will take her years to get even close to the volleys of Mauresmo, Henin, Davenport, Clijsters, Hingis, and a few others. Playing doubles would really help her game right now. I would help her get a sense for the net, and would, and would make her game less one-dimensional much more quickly.

Yes, she did make the effort to go up there and it paid off that time, but she gives up a lot of points there too. She just kept getting passed in the San Diego final(even though she won). But there was this other one where it sat right up for Henin and she just ripped a forehand winner. But she should play doubles. Would help a bit with court sense.

I disagree, even at her best both Hingis and Mauresmo have better volleys, Davenport has a better serve, and quite a few players are faster.

To each their own I guess. And about the serve, it depends if you want more pop or better placement. Serena has more pop on her serve and it's very difficult to get a racquet on it, while Lindsay gets some consistant pop(not as big as Serena's though) but with amazing placement and spin.

I do agree with this. Serena is incredible, at her BEST. She is basically nowhere near that right now. Sigh.

at the hight of her dominance serena was the fastest and best mover by far, and her serves were killer, both second and first.

she was fast yes, but I think Clijsters had better movement. for serves Leftys is right, Serena's is faster, but Lindsay is able to do more things with her serve.
