k, what is your rating (3.5, 4.0, ect) also is there a certain type of racket you want? do you want a powerful racket, or what?
Benchwarmer1
well i am a 3.0 player and seeking a medium powered raquet
PSALT
ok. I suggest tenniswarehouse.com to find a racket. one that sticks out to me is the Prince Triple Threat Scream. you can order it for 60.00 dollars. I'll keep looking though

In my opinion you should look for a racquet that allows you to get as much control out of your stroke. As you get the control down you will then feel comfortable adding spin and some racquet speed.

Dunlop Maxply McEnroe looks good for you too.it is $80.00

Is the Head Liquidmetal 4 any good?

| Benchwarmer1 wrote: | | Is the Head Liquidmetal 4 any good? |
I read up on it. I sounds ok, it was Tennis Magazine Editors Choice. the best thing I can tell you is to find a raquet store near you. they let you demo rackets that is the best thing to do. if there isn't one you can get rackets form tenniswarehouse to demo. all you have to do is pay shipping.

Are there any good wilson or volkl that fit this description?

no for Volkl, but the Wilson H Rival fits your description

The Liquidmetal Heat or Fire might be good for you.
Here are the links for both:
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageRCHEAD-LMHEAT.html
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageRCHEAD-LMFIRE.html
Benchwarmer1
Alright thanks for the links! I will definety consider these two
x.doublea
No problem. Both of those racquets are on-sale, so they are only around $75.
Benchwarmer1
do you own a liquidmetal of some sort?
x.doublea
I used to use the Liquidmetal Radical and Prestiges, but I switched to the Flexpoint Prestige just a week ago.
Benchwarmer1
how is it so far?
x.doublea
I love it. It practically feels just right. It's similar to the liquidmetal version, except with better feel and more punch on my shots.
Benchwarmer1
Do you think they will lower the price because of the fxp version?
(sorry for all the questions )
x.doublea
I doubt it. The Liquidmetal version is still selling at $199.99, and they (TW) recently brought back the Prestige Classic 600 and they are selling it for $179.99. It's highly doubtful that they will drop the price. However, based on the needs you gave us (racquet with power, medium swing speed), the Flexpoint Prestige might not suit you, for it is very heavy and requires tremendous swing speed.
They did come out with a Flexpoint Heat (similar to Liquidmetal Heat), which sells for $119.95. Here's the link if you're interested (I know it's approximately $20 over your budget):

I still think he should go with Prince......
x.doublea
Sorry, I'm a bit of a HEAD fanatic...
I guess Prince would also be a good choice. I've only played with a Prince for five minutes once, and I was a bit disappointed at it.
Benchwarmer1
oh thats fine, its just that I didn't want something over the top like something around 250 or stuff around there (to PSALT's FXP suggestion)

You should always demo the racquet first, though, unless your're absolutely sure it will fit your game (Ex. me with the Flexpoint Prestige). You should try one or two racquets from different companies.
Benchwarmer1
so are there any other prince racquets (Other than the TT Scream) that fit the description?
PSALT
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageRCPRINCE-PAF.html
the Prince Air Freak....
x.doublea
Perhaps the Turbo Beast, which is selling for only $69.99:
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageRCPRINCE-PBST.html
Benchwarmer1
is the turbo beast on the same series as the shark? (not that i need the shark)
x.doublea
Yes, it is. Both are in the Turbo Series. The Beat has been a popular racquet in the past.

have any suggestions on which strings would be good to use for spin and control, and possibly durability?
x.doublea
What do you currently use?
Benchwarmer1
well i used to use prince topspin 16L, but its seemed to lack feel.
x.doublea
I suggest you give HEAD FiberGel Power and Babolat Syntronic Brio at try (I used to use the HEAD and now I use the Babolat). Both provide good feel, control, and power.
Benchwarmer1
How durable are those two strings?
x.doublea
Not overly durable, but above average.
Benchwarmer1
are tecnifibres any good (particularly the NRG2)?
x.doublea
Sorry, I've never tried them. However, I've heard that they are solid strings. The Bryan Brothers use Technifibre strings.
Benchwarmer1
thanks for the tips, i guess i'll go with the babolat or head strings
x.doublea
Between HEAD and Babolat, I would go with Babolat. Babolat is historically one of the best companies at strings, and they are generally regarded as the standard.
Benchwarmer1
they're famous for natural gut most right?
x.doublea
Absolutely. Their VS gut has been used by most of the top players.
Benchwarmer1
today, I was playing tennis with my uncle and he let me use his babolat pure drive i really liked the way it felt off of the racquet, but i know its really expensive, Are there any cheaper racquets similar to the pure drive?
x.doublea
According to TW, the Dunlop Maxply McEnroe is similar to the Pure Drive. However, the Dunlop costs only $69.99. The Prince Air Vanquish MP is also similar at $129.99.
Benchwarmer1
it also says the head flexpoint instinct is similar, does that mean the liquidmetal version applies too?
x.doublea
Yes, because the Flexpoint version is just an upgrade of the LM version.
Benchwarmer1
thanks x.doublea
x.doublea
No problem. It's my pleasure.
Benchwarmer1
thanks to your advice i've decided to get the liquidmetal instinct with Klip K-Boom or Luxilon Big Banger ALU Power for the mains and Tecnifibre X-One Biphase for the Crosses, How does that sound to you x.doublea?
x.doublea
That sounds like a good combination. The Instinct is a solid racquet, and Klip, Luxilon, and Tecnifibre are all leading string brands, so you've picked good gear.
Benchwarmer1
alright! thanx x.doublea
x.doublea
No problem....
Just to give you an opinion, I would recommend you choose the Luxilon over the Klip- Luxilon is supposedly better, as all the professionals use it, and it is only $2 more expensive than the Klip.

I believe it was the Prince More Balance.
Sorry for not responding to you earlier, PSALT!

leftys_rock
at least you practiced with prince more than i did........i dont think i have ever touched a prince racquet .......and you probably wouldnt have been as disappointed with prince had you tried one of the higher performance racquets.......
x.doublea
That's true. I asked a friend whether I could just try it, and I literally couldn't swing properly because it was so head heavy. I was thinking of getting an NXG or a Diablo a few years ago, but I chose the Prestige (which I'm extremely happy with).
Benchwarmer1
i also need some help on durable strings, but I need to know which strings will last me the longest for the least amount of money
x.doublea
What price range are you looking for?
Benchwarmer1
About 4-8 dollars
x.doublea
There is Babolat Pro Hurricane, a durable polyester-based string which costs 8.95 on TW (per set). This string is simlar to Big Banger.
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageACBAB-BH16.html
Benchwarmer1
What about that Head IntelliString stuff? or IntelliTour?
x.doublea
A great string (my favourite Head string) is Head FibreGel Power 16 ( http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageACHEAD-HFGPWR16.html ). On TW, it is only $6.95. However, it is more of a powerbased string. IntelliString ( http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageAC-HIS16.html ) is very durable, and it only costs $9.50.
Benchwarmer1
are the kirschbaum super smash honey (or spiky) any good?
x.doublea
It is very similar to Babolat Hurricane. Therefore, if you're looking for that type of string, I would recommend you to choose Babolat simply because, chances are, your closest tennis store will have Babolat Hurricane and not Kirschbaum Super Smash Spiky.
Benchwarmer1
You're right, i have seen so many stores with the babolat strings, but no Kirschbaum.
x.doublea
Kirshbaum is more of a European based country (they're German, if I'm correct). So, just fo convienience, I would recommend the Babolat.
Benchwarmer1
what are more reliable, a durable synthetic gut or a durable poly?
(Once again sorry for all the questions )
x.doublea
Polyester is the most available and durable string out there nowadays (kevlar is rarely seen). You can get HEAD Synthenic Gut ( http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageACHEAD-HMSG.html ) for only $2.99 for solid overall performance- nothing special, but it is solid in everything (almost).
Benchwarmer1
awesome stuff x.doublea (very affordable)
x.doublea
I have used that string before. Nothing spectacular (in my opinion), but no complaints, especially the price. I guess you're going with the synthenic gut. Nice choice.
Benchwarmer1
i am actually leaning toward the prince synthetic gut original
x.doublea
That string is similar and is very solid too. As it says, it's the original synthenic gut string. You won't go wrong with that either.
Benchwarmer1
Hey x.doublea, what has been going on with NEA? I just read Gators-Rox comments and I just want to know what had happened.
stevos14
Umm, me and NEA had a little arguement, it spanned over the wimbledon prize money issue in "Member Polls". Starting at around page 4 to page 6 i think.
x.doublea
Oh. To put it in short, N_E_A tried to improve conversation by voting 'no' on the Wimbledon prize money thread. He got a bit fiery and got into a small argument with stevos14. Gators-Rox didn't like how it was a bit negative, and N_E_A sort of tried to explain that he was doing it to improve the conversation. However, he said that Gators-Rox was overreacting. Gators-Rox didn't like how there were, in her opinion, personal comments.
I wish she could have talked to Percy first...I hope she comes back, because she has been a great asset to the forum, and gave many insightful opinions on a variety of matters.
Benchwarmer1
Oh absolutely, she was a huge asset to the forum, and for her to leave like that was sad because i didn't really get to speak with her, but i read everything that was said during the arguement and frankly i can't blame Gators for leaving that is just wrong insulting peoplejust for getting their point out.
x.doublea
Yes, I don't blame her too. I hope she eventually gives the forum a second chance, though....
So, are you going to get the Prince Synthenic Gut original?
Benchwarmer1
Yes and probably yes!
x.doublea
So the LM Instinct with the Prince Synthenic Gut....sounds good to me! Just to tell you, when I was using my LM Radical, I was actually contemplating on switching to the Instinct. Then, I 'met' the Prestige....
Benchwarmer1
cool, but just a little (ok maybe too) pricey for someone like me
x.doublea
Back then, I was lucky enough for my coach to actually give the racquet for free. But I still hit with someone's Instinct and it was nice. Just a tad to powerful for me.
Benchwarmer1
ur so lucky i wish i had something like that, and i do like to play with power with a bit of a slower swing (medium-fast as opposed to fast) is it good for an instinct?
x.doublea
Yes. It's actually the best in the hands of those types of players, so....
Benchwarmer1
SWEET (in Napoleon Dynamite tone)
Benchwarmer1
My uncle is an avid tennis player, and he wants to know if the Signum Pro-Poly Plasma 16's are any good. any thoughts or anything like it for him?
x.doublea
I have never played with it (or heard of it, for the matter), but it sounds good from TW:
Poly Plasma offers exceptional control and is very spin friendly. This one is a great choice for aggressive players seeking a durable string that offers enough control to allow for high swing speeds. Its co-polyester construction makes it more comfortable and better at holding tension compared to traditional polyester offerings.
One pack costs $8.90.
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageACFORTEN-SIGPPP16.html
Benchwarmer1
How about the megaforce ones?
x.doublea
Both Poly Plasma and Megaforce are similar to each other. Megaforce is more durability and control oriented, while Poly Plasma is more 'feel' and comfort oriented.
Benchwarmer1
cool, i might even use one of the signum pros(poly plasma)
x.doublea
It does look good through the review...
Benchwarmer1
very tempting to me(kinda like pizza)
x.doublea
My advice is just to pick what you think will be the best for you.
Benchwarmer1
actually i have been checking those out for a while, but i just forgot about them until now
x.doublea
I think you would have to order them (the poly plasma), through the internet though, unless you nearby tennis store carries them or can get you a custom order.
Benchwarmer1
i was planning on doing that after i saw the poly plasmas
x.doublea
Perhaps you should order a reel then, so you can have excess so when your strings break, you can bring the reel in to let your coach or pro string it for you.
Benchwarmer1
how many racquets can a reel string up?
x.doublea
Approximately 16 racquets.
Benchwarmer1
awesome, i now have enough money to buy the LM instinct and the Signum Pro strings!
x.doublea
Are you going to buy them now, or when your birthday comes?
Benchwarmer1
probably when the school year ends or the weeks before on June 8
x.doublea
That's good.
