I have a question about my serveUm...another person told me that when you are serving, you are suppose to bring your racquet behind your head and then snap it forward, is this part of pronation?
x.doublea
I guess, but if you want spin, you're really snapping upwards rather than forwards in order to create spin.

is the underhand sidespin serve legal?
x.doublea
Yes, it is....however, you should use it all the time at all. Perhaps only to keep your opponent guessing once in a while, if not never.
Benchwarmer1
it is a really weird looking serve
x.doublea
Yes, but it can be effective. Chang did it to Lendl in 1989....
Benchwarmer1
did he ace it or something
x.doublea
No, he returned it back, but he lost the point.
Benchwarmer1
did he like get really tired to run and get the ball?
Dragonlord
ive don that sometimes, however, my opponent says im playing cheap and gets angry...
J-man
I like underhand serving it when i play someone really bad. that way I don't risk double faulting which really screws my game up
Benchwarmer1
That's really smart J-man, i should try that sometime
leftys_rock
it does really work if you have A LOT of underspin on it......it is really good for throwing somebody off especially if you are a big server......
Benchwarmer1
i'm working on the "big server" part
Dragonlord
so am i, i can do a really good spin serve, but im still trying to get more power on my first serve...
x.doublea
Me too...my serves are so heavy, but I rarely hit serves over 95....

| Dragonlord wrote: | | so am i, i can do a really good spin serve, but im still trying to get more power on my first serve... | I've been working on my spin serve. It's hard but it's some what getting there
x.doublea
My serve relys alot on the sidespin and the kick...I can't like beat anyone only on hard serves....
Dragonlord
me too, my spin serve can hit the ball all the way to the other side of the court, but my power serve is just average, whenever I try for power the ball goes into the net or goes flying with backspin on it...
Benchwarmer1
what part of the ball am i supposed to hit the slice serve
leftys_rock
you brush the side of the ball to put the spin on it.......
to take advantage of my leftyness, i use kick serves, slice serves, mixed up with flat serves to mix it up........theyre not fast or anything theyre just placed in different areas of the box, so i can still get a substantial number of aces....

| Benchwarmer1 wrote: | | what part of the ball am i supposed to hit the slice serve |
You should be hitting the right side of the ball...sort of like, if you can see the ball as a clock, you should be stroking the ball at 2 or 3 o'clock.
Benchwarmer1
and for the kick serve?
x.doublea
I think from 8 to 10 o'clock....
Benchwarmer1
where should the toss be on a kick serve, and a slice/flat serve?
x.doublea
The kick serve toss should be slightly to the left, the slice should be to the right, and the flat should be in front of your head, slightly in front.
Benchwarmer1
so when you say kick toss is on the left, does that mean over my head?
x.doublea
Yes, sort of...
Sort of like this:

No problem. BBC Sport is a usefull tool if you want to get some fundamentals straight....
Benchwarmer1
do they have stuff for other sports too?
x.doublea
Yes...go to the website, and in the left column, there will be something that says "Choose a Sport".
Benchwarmer1
have you tried anything for other sports?
x.doublea
No...I don't play any of the other sports they offer. I know my father's using the Golf one, because he wants to have the 'Tiger Golf Swing'!

i want to have the nadal forehand
x.doublea

I have a four step diagram on how he hits it, but don't try to hit it like he does, because it's technically wrong for everyone but him....
Benchwarmer1

yeah, no one's replying to the topic, should i delete it

not only that but is also quite dangerous. Nadal will end up with arm problems....
Benchwarmer1
bad enough to shorten his career?

No one has seen it yet, because barely no members are on at this time! I think you should keep it on...

He does an extremely quick cut upwards, which is extremely unnatural....

sadly enough, probably
Benchwarmer1
eek, that sucks does he use a full westen?

| Benchwarmer1 wrote: | | eek, that sucks does he use a full westen? |
yes. he gets EXTREME topspin. more than any of us could ever dream of getting.
Benchwarmer1
it won't be worth it(unless he gets a crazy number of grand slams) for the forehand to ruin his career

| Benchwarmer1 wrote: | | it won't be worth it(unless he gets a crazy number of grand slams) for the forehand to ruin his career |
it probably won't. the thing is Nadal really isn't that talented as a tennis player, he is talented as an athlete. so using those skills is how he wins. he wouldn't stand a chance if he played a game like Safin or Federer who take full advantage of their talent as tennis players.
x.doublea
Yes, I agree. As well, the amount of running he does is burning him out in the long run as well....

where has safin been this season, he's in like the 52nd seed
x.doublea
He was out for the first bit because of his knee injury...since then, he has been pretty up and down.
Benchwarmer1
it says on his website he will be at RG
x.doublea
Yes, he will...he's fully recovered from his injury. It's just he hasn't found his consistancy yet.
Benchwarmer1
i really hope he gets a good draw
x.doublea
Personally, I hope he doesn't, because he often struggles with players that aren't quite as strong.
Benchwarmer1
i just don't like seeing hasbeens, although i don't think he is
x.doublea

He has lost to many players in which his talent level is like theirs x50....
Benchwarmer1
on my last post i forgot to put "yet"

J-man

| x.doublea wrote: | | He has lost to many players in which his talent level is like theirs x50.... | Exactly. He still has a long way until he can play that top level. Bad draw or nor it's going to be hard come FO

As embarrassed as I am to admit it, my serve has improved from watching Nick Bolletari's Sonic Serve show on the Tennis Channel. I played three sets yesterday, double faulted only four times.
I've gotten much more "pop" in both my first and second serve, in fact my second serve was exploding off of the court. I've been practicing the techniques from the show for about two weeks now, and my stroke has been steadily improving, which is saying alot since my serve was never a weakness.
J-man
While I never liked Bollteri I'm gald that your improved your serve
Rattler

Played three times since then...haven't lost yet, and haven't double faulted since the first of the three matches.
x.doublea
Wow...are you spinning it in, or are you like going for the aces?
Rattler
My number of aces has gone up. My intention when I serve is to get it deep (if it skids on the line even better) and placement. I don't go for aces all the time. Usually I hit a wicked heavy slice or a flat ball. My second serve is always a topspin one (again deep...and I want that jump to the ball is lower than an overhead, but high enough to be uncomfortable to hit)
