I have a problem deciding which racquet I should get...I would like to know which type of racquet would fit my playing style, I mostly play at the baseline and like using topspin, I have a semi-western grip...please tell me which racquet will fit me.
At the CP Discussion Board, they recommended a Babolat AeroPro Drive, but it seems that Babolat isnt that great, (reading through some posts) and I kinda like the Prince O3 Hybrid Hornet...or should I get a Head Flexpoint Prestige or Wilson nCode nPro Open racquet...please help! Thanks in advance

What racquet do you have now, and what do you like and dislike about it?
Dragonlord
I just bought a Wilson at my local store...and I dont really know the name of the racquet...lol
it doesnt have any power and the control isnt very good...
x.doublea
Do you have the racquet with you, or did you just leave it at the store for now?
Dragonlord
I have it with me...its just one of the junior wilsons that u can get if u go to like Target...lol
Benchwarmer1
how much are you willing to pay?
Dragonlord
I have been wanting to get a new racquet for some time and my dad said I could buy one up to $200
x.doublea
What racquet have you played with regularly last? Is it too heavy, to light, to head heavy, to head light, etc?
Dragonlord
the wilson one, and I dont really know anything about it...I just know I like playing from the baseline and I like using topspin...
x.doublea
Have you ever played with an 'adult' racquet before?
Dragonlord
yeah, my coach let me use his
Benchwarmer1
What does he use?
Dragonlord
a Head Flexpoint Prestige
x.doublea
Did you enjoy using it, or was it too heavy?
Dragonlord
I enjoyed using it but I thought that it's head size was a bit small and I enjoyed a Prince racquet that one of my friends let me use...it was a hybrid hornet
I have been using Tennis Warehouse to look at different tennis racquets
Benchwarmer1
Or should try to demo the racquets you like and just buy your favorite
x.doublea
Were you using the MID size for the Prestige?
Dragonlord
yea
x.doublea
I play with that. It might be a bit difficult to play with. Try the Mid Plus version. It plays about the same.
The TW review of the Prestige is out!
http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/reviews/fxpp/fxppreview.html
Benchwarmer1
didn't the MP get the highest score?
x.doublea
I can't believe they gave such 'low reviews'...both the MID and MidPlus scored lower than the LM....absolutely IMPOSSIBLE. The Flexpoint version is SO much better!
Benchwarmer1
I don't understand why they don't just update the old reviews so the new ones would be more adequate
Dragonlord
so u guys recommend the Head Flexpoint Prestige Mid+? Is that suited to my playing style with heavy topspin and baseline play?
x.doublea
I just read the review for the MID, and the responses were actually good. I think Brad (one of the testers) pulled down the average of the racquet. Else, it would have scored like 85.
Benchwarmer1
if you liked the hybrid hornet go for it!
x.doublea
| Dragonlord wrote: | | so u guys recommend the Head Flexpoint Prestige Mid+? Is that suited to my playing style with heavy topspin and baseline play? |
The heaviness of the racquet should allow for a lot of topspin to be created, especially with the new Flexpoint holes. I recommend it, but ask your pro whether you can demo it, and see whether you like it!
Dragonlord
too bad they dont have a review for the hornet...however I really have a hard time deciding between the Babolat AeroPro Drive and the Prince O3 Hybrid Hornet because both have been selected as editor's choice and the hornet does not have a review, is Prince or Babolat generally better?
x.doublea
Personally, Babolat is a piece of junk. Not sure about the Prince. I recommend you try out the three racquets (AeroPro Drive, Hybrid Hornet, Prestige), although the Prestige is definitely more of a player's racquet than the other two.
The Editor's Choice racquets are not necessarily the best racquet....
Benchwarmer1
agreed, like xdouble.a i am a head fan and i think a player like you would be great with a FXP prestige
Dragonlord
thanks! I will probably go with the Head racquet even though most of my friends are going with the Prince O3s...
Dragonlord
oh yeah, what strings should I get?
x.doublea
Many players who love to produce topspin use Luxilon Big Banger Alu Power- a polyester string giving good control and helps take a tiny bit of power away to help you control the shot (I read that from a TENNIS Magazine).
Benchwarmer1
Or try the rough version!
x.doublea
That would be a good idea...the rough version creates more spin for you.
Benchwarmer1
or my personal wishlist string the Signum Pro Poly Plasma
Benchwarmer1
on racquets, if you like wilson, you can also try the nSix-One 95, it has a pretty open string patter for you to produce spin
x.doublea
Perhaps you can ask your pro shop to order it for you?
PSALT
you are such a Head fanatic Doublea! Dragon I recommend the O3 Hybrid Hornet. It is great for a baseline games and extremely spin friendly. It is also solid when you come to net. It is the racquet I use and IMHO the best racquet Prince has out (FYI, never get 03 White, it has no feel whatsoever).
Benchwarmer1
so psalt, do you think his game would fit a nSix-One 95 16x18?
x.doublea
I am... but I should recommend what I like the most, right?

From when I tried my friends and reviews I would think so. When I tried it it is spin friendly and also great for baseliners. I am not a expert on Wilson, I know more about Prince, Head, and Fischer.
x.doublea
Well, that might work, but the head size might be a bit small for what Dragonlord's looking for....
PSALT

| x.doublea wrote: | | Well, that might work, but the head size might be a bit small for what Dragonlord's looking for.... |
I wouldn't think it would be a problem. He should demo it to see. As of now I would recommend he demo the Hybrid Hornet, nSix-One95, and the Prestige.
x.doublea
He said he had problems with a Prestige MID's head size (93), so I thought he might be interested in something 5 square inches larger (MIDPLUS, 9 . However, a 95 square inched racquet might work....
PSALT
while I'm at it I would also recommend Fischer's M Speed Pro No. 1. The raquet head is 98'. it is quite like the Hybrid Hornet and I liked it.
x.doublea

That's the one Baghdatis uses, right?

i actually tried prince racquets earlier this week.... ....i have to say, yes i do like the 03 hybrid hornet and the 03 blue.....the white was kind of odd feeling.........like it first felt like a powerful racquet, but i couldnt really get anything off of it.......
x.doublea
Do you think it they are somewhat similar to your nPro?
leftys_rock
kind of......the only difference was that when i even first picked up the nPro, it felt fragile, which wasnt the feeling i got with the white.....the white felt powerful, but i couldnt get anything going with it.....i couldnt get anything going with the nPro either.....
x.doublea
So, with your nPro, I guess it was more of you having to get used to it before it became an effective racquet....
leftys_rock
actually, that racquet wasnt too bad compared to the W line racquets....gosh, it felt like the head would snap off every time i tried to crack a forehand....
x.doublea
When you say snap off, do you mean that the head was really flexible?
leftys_rock
no, that the head felt so fragile that it was going to break......
x.doublea
Oh. Maybe the head was hollow?
PSALT
ok, so far we have the 03 Hybrid Hornet, nSix-One 95, the Prestige, and the M Speed Pro No. 1. any other suggestions?

no
I asked my sister and she said the Dunlop M-FiL 600 might be good. it has a head of 108', easy access to spin, and has pop behind it.
x.doublea
That thing is so powerful though...it's like opposite of a nSixOne95 and a Prestige...it might work. I guess it depends on how fast his swing speed is.
PSALT
my ever Fischer obsessed sister recommends the Pro One FT.
take it with a grain of salt though, she is obsessed with Fischer and would recommend a Fischer racquet for someone wanting a new baseball bat.

How about the Volkl DNX 10?

yes, the head is huge. he will have to tell us how fast he swings to decide if that would be good.

PSALT
| Benchwarmer1 wrote: | | How about the Volkl DNX 10? |
I never liked it. I always thought it would be good for a serve & volleyer. it is a more finesse racquet than a baseliners like Dragon wants.
x.doublea
Yes, perhaps a Volkl DNX 8.

Ok, How about another o3, what about the o3 tour?

| Benchwarmer1 wrote: | | Ok, How about another o3, what about the o3 tour? |
I loved the 03 Tour. it is probably my favorite Prince racquet behind the Hybrid Hornet. it is absolutely amazing for spin production. the 03 Shark is good too. I never liked it as much as the others though. I feel it suits a mindless ball banger more than anything else. The 03 racquets are expensive. I would also recommend both the 03 Red & the 03 Blue but they are over $200.

It seems that Prince has really hit a winner with the O3 line.

I know, I proud of it too. Like you said I should recomend things I like. My family is crazy about racquets I have five sisters, four of which play tennis. I love Prince, you already know my Fischer obsessed sister, another one loves Wilson, another Head (if you didn't live in Canada I would introduce you two, you guys would get along), an the last one loves Dunlop. We are CONSTANLY fighting over what brand is better. The won that loves Fischer is crazy, she must have told me to get a M Speed Pro #1 a hundred times. Seriously though I am not exclusively a Prince lover. I have used racquets from Head and Wilson before. I am open minded.

You're lucky that you guys have debates on these things. I have a brother, and basically, it is, if I say Head's the best, he says Head's the best! I wish I could debate these things with him....

my rating is 4.0 and my swingspeed is moderately fast...thanks for all your comments guys, but nobody has mentioned any babolat racquets and i checked out the AeroPro Drive http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/descpageRCBAB-BAPD.html
and it seems pretty good...any commments?

I played with it once, and I have to say, I didn't really like it. I felt it had a lack of feel; it felt the same when I hit the sweetspot and when I shanked it. What does your coach recommend for you?

ok, you seem a lot like me. I have a fast swing as well and prefer the baseline. Right now I would recommend either the Hybrid Hornet or the Flexpoint Prestige. With your fast swing you will be able to get pop on both of them while getting a lot of topspin. Also you might consider the Prince 03 Tour. It is extremely manueverable and great access to spin. Another might be the Wilson nSix-One 95.

| Dragonlord wrote: | | is the Prince Hybrid Hornet the best prince racquet? because the shark and the turbo beast seem pretty good... |
IMHO it is. It is harder to get spin with the both the shark and the turbo beast. for a baseline game with topspin the Hybrid Hornet or the 03 tour are your best bet.
PSALT
| Dragonlord wrote: | | what tension should I have for my Prince O3 Hybrid Hornet? |
that depends entirely on your preference. personally I have mine strung at 55.....
x.doublea
The mid tension is 58, so you might want to string around there....
Chelsey
Most people say that the lower the string tension the more power you can get with your shots and the higher the tension the more control of the shot. The norm on the tour at this time is that most chose to have their racquets strung as low as 50 and as high as 60.
x.doublea
Yes, and you get players such as McEnroe stringing at 45 and players like Agassi and Sampras stringing in the 70s. But those are rare cases.

Chelsey
