Has anyone gone to Van Der Meer's Sweet Briar Camp?

My friend and I are looking into going there. How was it? Rooms, food, instructors? How much did your game improve?
J-man

Very Happy Very Happy I'm going again this summer for 3 weeks. The rooms are okay but the coaches are great. The food isn't bad. It improved my game alot. Maybe we will see each other there
jbors47

When are you going? I think I am going the 8-14 of july or possible the end of july, beginning of august.
J-man

Well I go on June 25 and 2 weeks into August. I'm loaded with tennis because of 2 more camps
jbors47

Jeez. What is your NTRP?
J-man

To tell you the truth I haven't been rated. But by looking at descrptions from a website I'd say I'm between a 3.5-4.0

And you jbors47. You sound like a 4.0
jbors47

Yeah I rate myself as a 4.0. If you just saw me practicing you would think i was a 4.5+, but in matches, it's different.
J-man

Yes it seems to go down a bit in matches. So what does your friend think of going??
jbors47

He is the one who came up with the idea. We are both going to be playing in the #1 singles spot next year for rival schools, so we both want to get some good coaching in during the summer.
J-man

Well VAN DER MEER is the place to go. Just be prepared for some hot a** (Sorry percy) weather. Don't know how hot it gets up there in Michagain
jbors47

Yeah in the summer it gets very hot here so I am used to it. I am going to sweat buckets no matter how hot it is anyways so it really doesnt bother me.
J-man

That's good. Have you gotten a regstration form/physical yet. I just got mine a few weeks ago
jbors47

No. We still are not sure if we are going to go yet. Do you think I can use my physical that I got this year for tennis? I got it done in mid-march.
J-man

I think so. You need a phyiscal every year so I think it will work
Benchwarmer1

yes, i know this has nothing to do with the topic, but does anybody know about any good tennis clinics in the bay area?
x.doublea

You should ask leftys...she lives around where you live.....
Benchwarmer1

oh ok, leftys are there any good tennis clinics in the bay area? and where may i find them?
x.doublea

Benchwarmer, I found a link that has a list of some Tennis Camps in California. I don't know the geography of California too well, so I wouldn't know if it's close to the Bay Area. Here's the link:

http://www.ussportscamps.com/content/tennis_camps/california.html
Benchwarmer1

well, i think that's a little out of my price range Very Happy how about most teaching for the least money. i have a very small price limit b/c my family moved to a new house last summer and we had to renovate and everything

so yeah...
x.doublea

My club's camp would be perfect...unfortunately, it's in Toronto.... Does your local club offer any sort of tennis camp?
Benchwarmer1

if a university counts
x.doublea

Does your university offer any sort of tennis training?
Benchwarmer1

wait, nvm i have a HS with like 9 courts behind my house
x.doublea

Do they offer any camp? If you have access, just playing everyday can help you improve as well....

Um, the ones that I am going to are just like, really small. Like I am going to be playing team tennis this summer in Fremont. I think that there is Niru's tennis academy which should have some clinics. I haven't gone to the academy directly, but I sometimes take lessons from Niru's brother and he is the coach for our school tennis team. Niru is a pretty good coach. She has been around at the Grand Slams. She has played in all four. She isn't like a big name tennis player, but she has been around and played in them.
Benchwarmer1

i go to school in fremont but i don't live there where is it near by?
leftys_rock

It is at Fremont Tennis Center. I think it is on Stevenson.
Benchwarmer1

wow, that's really near school, how much is it?(price)
leftys_rock

We're talking about team tennis right? Well it is $75 for one week, $300 for 5 weeks, and $425 for 9 weeks.
Benchwarmer1

the clinics?
leftys_rock

Do you happen to get the Inside Tennis magazine? If you do, there are ads for Niru's Tennis Academy inside. I think they have more information I'm not sure for the prices of their clinics though. I need to check.
Benchwarmer1

no, but i'll check too
leftys_rock

Ok, the website is www.nirustennis.com and there should be prices on there.
Benchwarmer1

thanks for the link!
