I really thought Federer was gonna lose that one.

He's defentily spooked. Most of these guys he's dropping sets he would have beaten in straight sets. It's going to be a tough French Open this year for him.

At the Grand Slams, Federer always seems to find his strange way of getting by... even when things don't bode well for him. We'll have to see....

Really. Good playing for them both this week. Does anyone know if it's offical that Hewitt is hiring Roche as head coach?

Both Federer and Nadal came back from a set down to meet in the final.
Nadal will win in straight sets. Federer has not impressed me for a long time now. Federer is also looking for his first title in two months.

2-6, 6-3, 7-5 win for Nadal. Hewitt pushed him good in the first and thrid set. Hewitt gives Nadal some trouble. If he could just hang with Nadal for that little bit longer.

Yes, Hewitt has the stanima and the will power to keep up with Nadal. Too bad his strokes are a bit outdated....

So the Nadal streak is over... what happened to him in the last set?

Eat your words!
I predicted that Federer would win. A change is always a motivator.

How did you two know that Federer would win this?
I suppose it is logical that Nadal is very tired after winning and playing so much. I guess Federer losing early in Rome was a blessing in disguise for him for Hamburg. He just had more left in the tank.

Well I've been alot about Federer, How he's been the partying superstar, gaining weight, ect....well he did gain some weight, but today he looked much slimer
-at the begining of the 2nd set I thought that Federer had figured out how to win against Nadal...especially after the Hewitt semi-finals...
-The undercurrents going into Roland Garros have just become very interesting.....Has Roger cracked Nadal's code...and his confidence?
Roland Garros 2007 just got very interesting.

I still think Nadal will win Roland Garros. He's got a few days to rest up, and it's not like his confidence will plummet. His record on clay in the past few years is still 81-1....
But, I'm sure Federer will have gained some confidence because of this, and it definitely bodes well for him.
But, definitely, Roland Garros just got much more interesting.

I do think Nadal will win RG as well. The best of five will also probably be an advantage since he can grind out matches. He probably knew his clay streak had to come to an end at some point and better at Hamburg than at Roland Garros for him.
But yes, RG will be quite interesting this year. For both men and women. Jankovic won Rome by the way. I can't believe she is still playing Strasbourg after playing so much on clay. She really should pull out. Still think Henin will win, although Jankovic has come close to beating her the last couple times, but I don't think Jankovic is mentally solid enough to close it out. Kuznetsova should also do well, she's gotten to 4 finals this year but lost all of them. And of course we can't count Serena out as she brings her best to the grand slams.

We all know who's the best on clay and that Nadal can still beat Federer on clay. Come FO Federer better bring it all because it will be a tough one.

If he wanted to take it easy, he would have pulled out of Hamburg. He had no points to defend there and he could have gone to Paris to get used to the clay at Roland Garros. He wouldn't have won the first set 6-2 and had 40-15 on Federer's serve early in the second set had he just wanted to take it easy. Him being tired I can understand but him wanting to take it easy I disagree with.

Quite frankly, I think Nadal is really trying to catch Federer points-wise by the end of this year....

I know Federer was playing very well and Nadal was playing badly (missing alot) but We've seen him in holes like thise before in matches and comeback (2006 french open, R32 vs Baghdatis in Dubai ect..). Taking a beat down 6-0?!

I would call it being tired and just not being able to do anything, not taking it easy.

I have no idea why Nadal played here. It was foolish of him to play here. He was clearly drained, you could see it in his matches.
It gets mentioned every season, the ATP is stupid to schedule two Masters Series events back to back like this, more so because it is so close to RG

That reminds me, I think Nadal also came to support keeping this tournament since the ATP is considering removing it.

I really thought that Nadal would have withdrawn from Hamburg. That's what I posted a week ago. However, it looks to me that he had a different strategy. Once he decided to stay, he really did play. The day before the final he said that win or loose, he would still have the highest of confidence in France. In fact, now that the streak is behind him, he might even feel somewhat of a relief, which means that he will really be at his best in RG.
I expect Nadal to win easily. I also expect Federer to NOT make the finals.
