Gold coast-HingisHingis will play her first match next week. Do you think she has a chance at winning? What about the seeds like (defending champ)schnyder, schiavone, safina, sugiyama and others?

I think Schnyder will win it. Schiavone and safina have good chances though. I don't think Hingis will win, she is not match tough. WTT is one thing but the WTA tour is something entirely different.

I believe that Dinara Safina can make some news by winning the gold coast.

i think Schnyder will win it because she's a lefty and there aren't many good lefty's on tour so. it's different for most women tennis players to get used to the fact that there a lefty.

yeah i think schnyder will win even though she is not known for her power....but she is incredibly smart on court with her lefty loops and spins.....im a lefty too so i try to learn from her playing....

I think Schnyder will win. She is incredibly smart dealing with strategy. As Brad Gilbert wrote, "Schnyder is the trifecta of trouble: the dreaded lefty, a pusher, and not shy about throwing all sorts of junk at her opponents." I think that it's more than Schiavone and Safina can handle. The only person in the draw experienced enough to handle this at its best is probably Hingis, and she's just returning from retirement.

Probably schnyder, but hingis did very well in her first match, against a top 100 player (6-1 6-2), very impressive for her first. Obviously a top 10 player is different, but she has a chance, and intimidation might get to other players' heads.

yes for her first time back a top100 player is great.

yup hingis made a statement in winning so easily in her first match....we'll see how she does tomorrow....

It's a good win for Safarova, who had as amazing year in 05, and has had the best start to 06. Congratulations to her . It's now time for her to breakthrough in a grand slam.

She won a couple of tournaments (tier 4) last year, but Gold Coast is her biggest win.
