Can Roddick Repeat?I know winning a small tournament isn't that amazing for a #4 ranked player, but I think Roddick can claim the Houston title again. The press got a bit excited last year, thinking he had the confidence on clay to make some noise at the FO. So much for that. He plays Haas next in the QF I'm pretty sure.
I really hope he does well this year at Roland Garros. In terms of American mens tennis at the FO, how does James Blake fare there?

He has to play two matches before Haas, actually, for he hasn't played his first round match yet.
I think Haas can beat Roddick on clay....

I think this is Haas tournament to win.

Yes, the only person to really beat Haas this year has been Federer.

it would most definately boost his confidence.......he needs some after a not so splendid year....

Last year, he had great matches against the top players. It's just he couldn't do it against players not as strong as he is.

even though roddick has had some sucess there in houston i cna't see him winning. he has to get throughsome tricky opponents. and plus on the clay his power isn't everything

Roddick always plays well at this event, and would need to play his best (which I think he will), to beat Haas. That QF match if it happens, will decide the winner. Anyway, Roddick has a fantastic record at this event, one of the best on the ATP tour for a single event. It is an even better feat for him since it is on clay.

Yes. Houston has actually won the International Series Tournament of the Year a few times, so that adds to the honour.

How many times has Roddick won here (or what is his record?)

Roddick has won here three times. I think the record is held by Connors who has four.

Wow, thats impressive for Roddick. I didnt think he could pull off that many wins on a Clay court. Good for him

He won the first title of his career, back-to-back on clay in Atlanta and Houston...

Interesting how his first tournament victories were on clay. It's always interesting how these things work out. For example, Henman has never won a tournament on grass before.

and his home GS is on grass

I mean, he hasn't even won Queen's before. To bad a guy named Sampras always stood in his way....

Or Hewitt, who he lost 2 twice in a row in the finals. It is a shame and suprise Henman hasent won a title on grass, but there are so few tournaments and the very strong field at Queens and Wimbledon, so there was always someone in his way.

Yes....and when Sampras lost to Federer in 2001 Wimbledon, Henman went into the semifinals against Ivanisevic with a 4-0 record....and lost in five.

Well I caught the final with Fish...and I know that he has had a bad last few months, but Fish acted like he had just won Roland Garros. He laid down on the court, he tried to climb into the stands. It was an embarrassing display. It was Houston, not Roland Garros!

LOL, it shows how much it meant to him. Im glad he won, the title will give him so much confidence for the rest of the season. He has come back from a long injury. I never would have thought he would win a title this soon. He suprised everyone last week.

I am also very happy for Mardy. It has been a long road for him and to get back and win a title this quickly must have be estactic for him.

I guess it shows how much he's gone through and how much it means to him. It's great that he's back.

It also shows that he has real love for the game. He has battled back for alot of adversity and to get his first win back for all that must have really felt good. I say good for him.

Definitely....it has been a long road for him, considering he had difficulty winning WTT matches successfully last year.
