Australian Open Day 14Here's the schedule:
http://www.australianopen.com/en_AU/scores/schedule/index.html
Only two matches will be played... the mixed doubles final (Daniel Nestor's in the finals!) and, of course, the men's final at 7:30 Australian Time.

I got Federer in 4 sets. Gonzo has been playing well and I can see him take one set. I hope I will be able to catch some doubles as well

I have a feeling it's going to be similar to the Federer-Agassi final at the US Open 2005... Federer wins the first, Gonzalez steam roles the second (as Federer loses focus), leads the third by a break, gets broken, loses the tie break, and, out of steam, loses the fourth easily. Just a prediction....

Federer will win easily in 3 just to take away the limelight from Serena

he won't take the limelight away from her. she is the biggest story of the Aussie, Gonzo winning easily would be the only storyline on the men's side that could even challenge that.

Very interesting... in the ATP poll, of 14227 voters, 43% think Gonzalez will win the final.

Federer wins 7-6 6-4 6-4 to become the first player ever to win 3 grand slams 3 times each.

Well, congratulations to him... may people who voted on ATPtennis.com say that he will win more than twenty. Might be possible, actually. I think he'll get around 15.

I honestly think he will win the Grand Slam this year as much as it pains me to say it. I see nobody this year that will step up and beat him at a slam. Nadal at the French Open would be the best shot, but I think he is slipping quite fast. He may have the odd great tournament on the clay, but I think he is feeling the workload now. I hope he doesn't have a burnout. Apart from Nadal (which is more unlikely now), the only person I could say is Murray at the US Open, but those chances are even slimmer. He can win the Grand Slam this year which would get him to 14, and then he would still be winning many slams after that.

There are 3 more left this year. So he cannot tie Sampras in 2007.

I agree, I can see Federer taking the French this year. I think right now he will go to work his ass off on clay, if he chokes again this year I will die!
Nadal better keep his clay win streak alive, because he's not been looking so great lately.

I got up this morning as they were in the tiebreaker of the first set and then watched the last two sets live. Federer only allowed 4 points on his 10 service games of the last two sets. It was surreal. At one point, I was laughing when he hit an icredible drop shot because his game has so much variety and accuracy. He won 24 straight sets at the AO, considering he won the last 3 against Baghdatis in last years final.
The scary thing is that he is gatting better and he finds more things to aim at so that he can stay focused. His goal today was to win in straight sets since it has not been done for so long. He said in order to be the greatest ever, one must surpass Sampras 286 weeks as no1, win more ATP events than Connors (100+) and win more GS of each kind. This means 5 AO (Agassi 4), 7 RG (Borg 6), 8 Wimby (Sampras 7) and 6 USO (Sampras, Connors 5). So he says that he is a long way from 'best ever'.... btw that is 26 GS and he will not get there ...
His next goal is to win this year's RG. I think he can do it.

I seriously hope Federer doesn't get near Connors' record for the most titles.

That first set was good tennis, after that it was clear who was going to take it.
Fernando must still be kicking himself for that set point miss of the forehand into open court! It still bugs me.
