ATP RankingDoes anyone know what's happening with the ATP rankings? The doubles still has a 'race' format along with an entry system, but I can't find any 'race' format standings for the singles, as I can only find the entry rankings.
leftys_rock
yeah i cant find those either.....
dav6789
This is unusual, I think is will start after the Australian Open, when most players have played a tournament. Also, they Indesit ATP race has a new sponsor .
x.doublea
Usually, the ATP has the race rankings right after the first week of tournament play.
dav6789
Yeah they do, it is unusual that they have the doubles race. just not the singles.
leftys_rock
we'll see after the AO.....
dav6789
Yeah because it should be out by then.
leftys_rock
yeah.....till one and a half weeks til then though...
dav6789
I hope so, i think it's very late already.
leftys_rock
yeah....but im not really into ranking points....im more into what order the people are in....
dav6789
Yeah, the rankings aren't always true. Mauresmo recahed number 1 after a very good 2004, but she wasn't the best player.
leftys_rock
yeah...i thought that was very unusual....she probably just played a lot of events....
dav6789
Playing alot of events in 2004 punished Mauresmo in 2005 because she couldnt defend all her points.
leftys_rock
true....but injury wise, she is very consistent....she usually doesnt get hurt a lot....
dav6789
Yes, thats been a big advantage for her. Nearly ever tier 1 or 2 event has had Mauresmo in the draw.
leftys_rock
is it that her game usually avoids injury?? or is she just keeping her body very healthy??
dav6789
Her game is good for keeping her injury-free, but I think it's just that she does alot of exercises to keep her injury free.
leftys_rock
yeah....mauresmo doesnt look that old even though she is one of the older players on tour.....she looks a couple or more years younger than her actual age....
dav6789
So we will have to see if she can win a slam and truly fulfill her potential.
leftys_rock
she has a good chance at this one.....clijsters is injured in her half....
dav6789
Yes, I think she could be the slight favourite if she remains on course.
leftys_rock
yeah....would she be the first WC to reach the final of the AO??
dav6789
In a long time, im not sure if she would be the first.
leftys_rock
yeah, hingis has been playing superb tennis lately...
dav6789
It's good to watch . She adds variety to the game.
leftys_rock
yeah because she has less power, she is more crafty than the power hitters...i like her variety...
dav6789
But the fear is she could be overpowered.
leftys_rock
true...but hingis can sometimes counterpunch back and win....it just depends who she plays against...
dav6789
But her serve can get punished
leftys_rock
true....its something that needs to be worked on by hingis....
dav6789
She will have to work on that the most
leftys_rock
yeah, that is basically the only weakness in her game.....otherwise, shes a clean hitter...
dav6789
Even in the days when she was dominating, she was overpowered by Davenport and the Williams.
leftys_rock
true...we'll see how she deals with the power now....or if she just gets run over...
dav6789
Benesova is quite a big hitter, but Hingis can handle her i think
leftys_rock
yeah....hingis can outplay benesova....we'll see....play starts in 10 min...
dav6789
OK.. Looking forward to it ! Who is playing on the other arenas ?
leftys_rock
grojean vs. coria on vodafone and myskina vs. ardisson on MCA.....i think we need to make and AO day 6 topic in the AO topic...
dav6789
Oh good, I think Grosjean will beat Coria
leftys_rock
i dont know much about either of them so i cant really say anything
dav6789
It should be a good match, but I predict Grosjean in 4 sets
leftys_rock
all i know about coria is that hes a clay courter and he is a really fast runner....
dav6789
Yes thats right. He has improved on hard courts, but Grosjean is playing very well at the moment and plays well on all surfaces.
leftys_rock
oh...why hasnt grojean made a harder push to higher in the rankings then??
dav6789
He's had lot o injuries. He made the SF in Melbourne in 2001, had the match but lost . He is 25 in the world.
leftys_rock
oh...yeah i watched his five setter vs roddick in the QF of wimby....
dav6789
I watched that too, it was a very good match. Grosjean finally played well against Roddick.
leftys_rock
yeah, roddick prevailed in the end though.....grojean played good tennis in that one...
dav6789
The 2nd and 3rd sets were just walkovers for Roddick, he didnt miss a ball
leftys_rock
yeah, and then in the first and fourth sets, grojean got the early break...
dav6789
Grosjean was very brave in that match. I thought Roddick had won it after the 3rd set.
leftys_rock
yeah...grojean just didnt give up in that one...
dav6789
Yeah, he plays better from behind. Not a very good frontrunner
leftys_rock
yeah, he probably has good defense...
dav6789
He usually stands very far behind the baseline, whether he is being aggressive or defensive.
leftys_rock
oh, then hes a good mover then right??
dav6789
Yeah he is quick
leftys_rock
men are just in general, much quicker movers than women.....like there are rarely slow men on the tour...
dav6789
True...most of the top ATP players are quick. On the WTA, there are some that dont move very well (D avenport, Petrova, Pierce)
leftys_rock
and sharapova isnt that great of a mover either....she just has long legs....like i really havent seen any slow ATP players....
dav6789
Safin is sometimes slow.
leftys_rock
oh....hes not that consistent either...
dav6789
Thats a shame because he can play so well , but very rarely
leftys_rock
yeah, that injury just derailed him...
x.doublea
He's just an on-and-off player, which is a huge pitty, because in this era, his talent rivals Federer's. It's unfortunate because whenever he begins to find his ground, he gets injured.
leftys_rock
yeah like right after the AO....and that injury is taking a LONG time to heal....
x.doublea
He's doing the right thing for his long-term tennis. He stated that the injury is gone, but that the musceles that are situated around his knee has to be built up.
leftys_rock
yeah....hope he'll be playing soon....
dav6789
He should be playing in Dubai i think
leftys_rock
cool....we'll see how his playing is....
x.doublea
He's trying to make his first tournament appearance at Marseilles on February 13. He really has to cut his hair....
leftys_rock
lol yeah...and get his game up to speed....
dav6789
Marseille has a good draw. Nadal and Safin are both coming back from injuries.
leftys_rock
cool...is fed also playing in that one??
dav6789
No I dont think so. He plays at the World tennis tournament, Rotterdam, where he is the defending champion.
leftys_rock
oh...so nadal will probably be the #1 seed at marseille then....
dav6789
Yes he will. Safin will be number 2.
leftys_rock
cool....has safin ever played nadal before??
dav6789
No not yet.
leftys_rock
oh yeah...safin was in his low when nadal burst onto the scene....
dav6789
Yeah, they just managed to avoid each other in 2005.
leftys_rock
yup...but they probably wont this year if both come back at the same time.....
dav6789
I think Nadal can get to the final in Marseille, but Safin is too unpredictable.
leftys_rock
true...cuz safin just sometimes loses to a nobody....
dav6789
Nearly all the time. He plays a good tournament and then spends a month loosing in the 1st round.
leftys_rock
yeah....its just too bad that he is too up and down.....
dav6789
Thats probably the reason why he only has 2 grand slams and a handful of titles.
leftys_rock
yeah....cuz he has the game to be a top 5, but hes just too inconsistent....
dav6789
Exactly
leftys_rock
he really has to put an end to the up and down thing.....
dav6789
Yeah if he wants to get to number 1.
leftys_rock
yeah....how old is the guy now??
dav6789
He will turn 26 in a few days. He celebrated his 25th birthday by beating Federer in the SF last year. Nadal celebreated his 19 th birthday by beating Federer in the SF in Paris.
leftys_rock
lol....everybody seems to celebrate their birthday by beating fed.....
dav6789
That's the only day they can beat him
leftys_rock
lol yes....they probably play unusually well on their birthday....
dav6789
LOL
leftys_rock
yeah...it was the opposite for roddick at the USO though lol....
x.doublea
| leftys_rock wrote: | | lol....everybody seems to celebrate their birthday by beating fed..... |
The best chance one has to beat Federer is on his birthday; Safin beat Federer at the AO when celebrating his birthday, and Nadal beat Federer at RG when celebrating his birthday. Maybe Agassi wished the US Open Final last year was played on April 29....
leftys_rock
lol....what tournament is played on april 29??
