Here are some pictures from the first week of the season:





Nadia Petrova and Dmitry Tursunov won Russia's first Hopman Cup.



Dinara Safina won the Australian Women's Hardcourts on the Gold Coast.





Dinara Safina and Katarina Srebotnik won the Doubles in Gold Coast.



Jelena Jankovic won the New Zealand International in Auckland.





Janette Husarova and Paola Suarez titled in Auckland.




Kim Clijsters beat Maria Sharapova to win the Champions Challenge exhibition event in Hong Kong.

The second week of the season had the biggest warm-up event for the Australian Open, the Sydney International. The final was a dramatic one between Kim Clijsters and Jelena Jankovic, who had both won tournaments the week before. Clijsters won it eventually saving match points, 4-6 7-6 (1) 6-4 to retain the title she had won in 2003.




















Anna-Lena Groenefeld and Meghann Shaughnessy won the doubles title over Marion Bartoli and Meilen Tu, 6-3 3-6 7-6 (2).






Meanwhile in Hobart, Anna Chakvetadze continued her great form from the end of 2006 to win her 3rd singles title. She beat Russian qualifier Vasilisa Bardina in the final. Elena Likhovtseva and Elena Vesnina completed a Russian sweep by winning the doubles.





Serena Williams was upset in the QF.

I know! She's by far the best looking girl on tour. She's very feminine. She has curves, she not a stick like some players, she isn't horribly muscular either.

I resized it on Photobucket. It seemed like it would work. Instead of saying it was too big, it just said it can't save it. that what it says when the avatar-changing-thingy won't work. Rolling Eyes I will have to try again.

I have to say (and it's unlike me to say it), in terms of looks of players with make-up on, Ivanovic is by far the loveliest. Ok.. that's too modest. By far the hottest with make-up.

One of my classmates is obsessed with Sharapova. Whenever I mention her name, he has to say, "Oh, she's so hot." Laughing And all I can say is something along the lines of, "Yeah, I guess she's quite hot." Laughing )

But, you know, I was really sort of at a loss for words... some of the pictures are just mesmerizing.

Yeah, when I used to take Spanish, we would talk about what we did that weekend and a lot of the times I said I watched tennis, and the guys in the class always say "Sharapova es muy caliente!" (Sharapova is very hot Razz) if her name is in one of the matches I watched. Laughing

Fortunately we don't talk about our weekends in Latin class. Cool

Ah yes... Spanish Laughing . Since Grade 10 is the entry course for us in Spanish in Canada, 'caliente' was part of the vocabulary Laughing ... and I think one of my classmates kept on saying 'Soy caliente' Laughing . Unfortunately, my school isn't much of a tennis-fanatic school, so I can only talk about tennis to only about five of my friends (the school is big on hockey, basketball, football Rolling Eyes , and soccer).
