they seem to include this year as Nadal defending his FO is mentioned in his achievements, as is Mauresmo's AO. Them including this year would have stopped Davenport from being nominated, she had a much better 2005 than Mauresmo and would have been nominated over her if this was only 2005. An arguement could also be made that Pierce even had a better 2005 than Mauresmo.

Does everyone else out there think it's a huge joke that L. Armstrong keeps winning all these awards over someone like Federer. I'd take Fed over Armstrong any day of the wk. in terms of his accomplishments and the type of athlete he is. That's no disrepect to what Armstrong has acccomplished but come on, Federer has been the most dominant athlete in the world since Jan. of 04. Frankly, it's not even close. The fact that he didn't make the top 4 finalists list, shows you how far tennis is off the map in the US. Very sad commentary on how nobody cares about this great sport here.

Yes, I was quite amazed when that happened. Like, Armstrong just won a month-long race, but Federer won 83 matches and lost only 5. Doesn't make any sense at all....

It has nothing to do with Tennis. Tennis is far more popular sport that bicycling.
The issue is that if Federer was American and Armstrong was European, the awards would be going Federer's way.
