"Race" Ranking SystemSo does everyone understand it (see How to Play)? Who wants to run it? I am think two people so one person can check for mistakes (as will I occasionally).

When you seed players for a tournament, will you go by the "race" or the other rankings?

All seedings will be based on the reguler rankings. The race is only for the YEC.

Hmm, I wouldn't mind running it, but with school starting soon, i'm not sure whether I will have time. It's basically just adding points from all the different results right? So do we determine the best Tier II/III/IV tournament at around the end of the season?

And the link to the 2006 ranking system doesn't work anymore, it just forwards to the main page. And the new system is different. It looks like this now: http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.co...obal/Pdfs/rankings/howitworks.pdf

I will help, it depends on how insanely swamped with homework I am on a couple nights that might screw it over, but other than that Im free. Having two people is good though. (or more)

Oh God I hate this new point system the WTA has issued. I mean, a tier I is worth half as much as a slam! I don't know why they had to change it again...I practically had the previous one memorized from FTL and now they go and change it.....
Anyway, sorry about my frustration. I think we'll keep the old point values (if I can find them online somewhere). And it's great that people are volunteering. leftys, I don't know if you should do it considering you run fantasy pool, unless you really want to. If N_E_A and Stevos want to do it that's fine, you'll just have to figure out who's doing what.
To answer leftys' question: They will count as they are played. So if a tier II, III, or IV result is one of your best 5 results in II's III's or IV's that season, then it will count towards your race rank. So for example, if your fist tournament is a tier III, then that will count towards your race ranking, and will continue to count until it isn't one of your 5 best tier II, III, or IV results. Understood?

Ah, ok, I see. Thanks!
NEA and Stevos can do the race rankings. I just currently feel a little unproductive as FP is off until early January.

Starting in Season 4, a race ranking will be put into place along side the official entry rankings. For the race, all players start the season with 0 points. 22 results will count towards the race: All points earned in the 4 grand slams and 12 tier I tournaments, as well as the player's 5 best results from tier II, III, or IV tournaments that year. If a player is not accpeted into a tier I draw, they may count an additional lower-tier (II, III, or IV) tournament result for the race. The race will only serve the purpose of deciding the 8 players who will compete in the Federer Masters Cup (YEC) at the end of the season. The race also encourages players to compete in many high level events, creating better competition and a more level playing field in tournaments. Because the race is a new addition to Fantasy Tennis, rules may be subject to change at any time. |
Percy, how many Tier I's can we substitute with a lower tier event when we are not accepted in the Tier Is? Can this(these) lower tier event(s) be of our choice or does it have to be the one played on the day of the Tier I?

Nothing is of your choice, but rather what other event you do best in (which is probably what you would choose anyway. It doesn't have to be the other tournament on that day (most likely you won't even be playing in it because you already applied for the tier I on that same day). Every time you are not accepted into a tier I draw, you may count another tournament result.

Okay, I will probably make an excel sheet for everyone where I will put their best, just so I don't have to keep looking back.
So it's me and NEA...cool, I might have to miss like a saturday night here or there NEA, just so you know. I will do my very best though.

Good idea. I was going to suggest making an excel sheet. I will send you (Stevos and N_E_A) a web page that has the 2006 point values. You know it's the lowest prize money for the tier on the page right?

I sent it to you by e-mail. If you didn't revieve it search "wta ranking points 2006" on google and go to either the bottom of the first page or top of the second. There should be a link titled "RANKINGS". Don't click on it. Click on the "catched" link next to it. This will take you to the old version only because good has not updated it yet, so this is only temporary. If you didn't recieve it by e-mail make sure you let me know so I can re-send it to you (I have it saved as an html document).

Lol, well right there you made your first error. All tier I's and grand slams count, whether you compete in them or not. The only exception is for players who did not get in to a tier I (see How to Play). The 5 best results are only for tier II, III, and IV tournaments.

Excel sheet done, it will make it much much easier. NEA, I almost feel like I really won't need any help on this, unless you really want to help out with it, I think I could easily handle it all.
If not, I should send you the sheet since it simplifies it a lot.

Alright, I'm adding Career High Ranking to the rankings page, and I have a few questions if anyone remembers these things. Did leftys ever reach #11 or just 12? What is Stevos's career high (15 or 14)? Agassi's was 15 right?

you got some different nations Perc. The USA is doing good here, 3 of the top 5 are from the US (Child, Jennacourt, and yours truly), JoJo is the only player to come out of Israel and win a Slam and get to No.1. Then Trinky is from Nicaragua/USA, I assume that mean born in Nic. and immigrated to the USA?

NEA/Leftys, I am away this friday for sure at a basketball tournament, staying in a hotel that night with no internet, there is no hope for me to do the race rankings.
NEA, when I said I would be fine earlier was completely wrong, I was just confident since the first ones were so easy, but I will definitely need help. Sorry to pull you around like this.
