Five top ten players have entered the Petrova Cup. Not_Even_Amateur has ventured out into the sunlight to be our top seed here. Followed by Jennacourt, PSALT (who was recently chosen by People magazine as the Sexiest Man Alive), and Bizet. Other notable players include Stevos, Doublea, Phobia, Mollusk, and Ying-Chang (who, by order of the judge in her most recent court case, is now traveling with a full time psychiatrist. She is also now on Zanax).

This is the start of the USO Series. Players obviously want a good start. Players like NEA and PSALT have very little to defend this summer circuit, both look poised for some gains here. Others like Jbors, who recently entered the top 10, will need some super-human play to defend all their points. Other news I must fill you in on include, No.1, Edelstein has been dropped by long-time endorser, Addidas. This recent news only fuels the arguments of people who are calling for John to retire. I will get his thoughts on this soon. Then, Yodavitch. He had committed to this event, but has pulled out due to his back. A back injury was what kept him out almost all of last season. This was the brief statement he issued.

"This is the first time it's hurt in almost a year. I've been playing so much I think it needs a little rest."

I will keep you updated on this story.

Now, matches to watch.

Stevos-Aztec – Aztec had a brief sliver of greatness earlier this season when he captured the Tier I in Adelaide. For many this was long expected, he was always considered a great talent when he was a junior, capturing the junior Aussie title. He will face another talented player, Stevos. Stevos, who many consider the greater of the two mini-Americans, will be a tough test. Stevos, who despite sub-par Slam performances, is generally consistent outside of them.

Phobe-Dreyfus – Dreyfus is a talented vet, he can beat Phobe if he can string some solid games together. Phobe has always had critics; she is called ‘mediocre’. Nevertheless, if you let her she can push you around with her serve. That alone can win her matches. We will see if it is enough to get her by the clever veteran.

Jennacourt is my victim for this interview,

Q. You failed to defend your Wimbledon title, are we back to the old Jenna? Never able to win the big matches?

Jennacourt:
I don't think the final is too bad. I played well in my semi against x.doublea and that was a pretty big match, plus I always lose to Vanessa so it's not like I choked or anything, just didn't rise to the occasion...

Q. What id your opinion of the USO Series format? Is it pointless, or does it help attract fans to the game?

Jennacourt:
Well I always like it because of course it's in my home country. There usually are a lot of fans during the summer events and it's definitely fun having Americans! The whole race to the U.S. Open is exciting for the players and the fans. I can't wait for the Open!

Q. Who should we look out for this summer?

Jennacourt:
PSALT especially. I think finally there is no pressure on him and he will thrive. Yodavitch and Vanessa are definitely at the top of the field right now, but I don't know how much longer they can keep it up. x.doublea and Stevos14, the Canadians, should do well too. They are fun to watch!

Picks,

Stevos def Aztec 6-4 3-6 6-2
Dreyfus def Phobe 5-7 6-4 6-4
Bizet def Avolt 6-3 6-4
PSALT def Valkryie 6-4 3-6 6-3
Mollusk def Ying-Chang 7-6 7-6
Doublea def Sheila 6-4 7-6

NEA def Stevos 4-6 6-4 6-4
Dreyfus def Bizet 6-3 6-7 6-4
PSALT def Mollusk 6-4 7-5
Jennacourt def Doublea 7-6 4-6 7-5

Dreyfus def NEA 6-2 3-6 6-4
Jennacourt def PSALT 6-4 4-6 7-5

Jennacourt def Dreyfus 6-3 1-6 6-1
