This is one of the most exciting tournaments of the year, and a great warm-up for Roland Garros. A country is entered depending on their top 2 singles players rankings. These players do not have to play though. The rankings are added up, and the top 8 teams with the least numbers can play..8 countries are split into 2 round-robin groups, with the winner of each group advancing to the finals. Each team match is 2 singles and 1 doubles. This event is held in Dusseldorf. Germany are the defending champions (they won it with Haas, Waske and Mayer).

Team this year are in ranking order:

1. USA (Roddick, Blake, Bryan, Bryan)- Champions '82 '84 '85 '93

2. Argentina (Nalbandian, Gaudio, Acasuso, Prieto)- Champions '80 '02

3. Croatia (Ljubicic, Ancic, Karlovic)

4. Czech Republic (Stepanek, Berdych, Vik)

5. Germany (Kiefer, Kohlschreiber, Waske, Kohlmann)- Champions '89 '94 '98 '05

6. Chile (Gonzalez, Massu, Capdeville, Garcia)- Champions '03 '04

7. Spain (Ferrer, Verdasco, Lopez)- Champions '78 '83 '92 '97

8. Italy (Volandri, Sanguinetti, Fognini)

Even though US are top seeds, I don't think they are the favourites. I am going for Chile to win again.

It's on clay right???

USA- Good players. But if it's on clay their doomed

Argentina- Has a strong singles team. All players love clay. But lately not all the players have been on all cylinders

Croatia- Shouldn't lose one doubles rubber

Germany- (btw who was on their squad last year???). A team to look out for.

Spain- Another powerhouse on clay

Italy- Looking somewhat weak. But there lucky it's on clay

I don't think we should write off the USA yet. Blake has improved on clay, when I saw him play Moya he wasn't playing badly at all. Roddick also played well compared to how he has played in the past. The Bryans will also win most of their matches as well. While the USA is not a favorite they are a dangerous floater.

I have to say, I expect Argentina or Chile to win it...both are really the only countries with proven clay court players playing. Spain might, but each of them aren't like the stongest players or anything....

He would be wasting energy...Roland Garros is more important than the ARAG team cup.

USA amd Croatia are tied 1-1 heading into doubles.

Ljubicic def Blake 5-7 6-3 7-6

Ginepri def Karlovic 6-4 7-6

I like the USA's chances here. Croatia doesn't have Ancic so it will be either Ljubicic-Karlovic or Ljubicic-and a unexperienced junior

2 big shocks there, and I am disappointed in Blake's match. Hopefully the Bryans will put this one away though. Last year USA failed to win a tie, as their singles players kept losing only the Bryans could win.

the Bryans should win it. without Ancic Croatia's doubles team is mediocre.

I could not believe Vik won! really Gaudio must have went out his way to find a way to lose this one!

I'm extremely surprised how badly Argentina lost...especially with Nalbandian.

I have a feeling if that junior plays Ginepri he will win (Mario cllic)

Finally Vik gets a win to add to his ATP record. He's been having a pretty bad year
