Of the womens field, who do you think will end the year #1 and why?

This will be a close race to the finish. I see Mauresmo holding off the likes of JHH and Sharapova and Clijsters. If Davenport can overcome her back injury she will be in the mix as well.

It's really tough to say who, but I think Mauresmo will finish Number 1. She now has new found confidence, and I thinkn she can really gain points at Roland Garros, and even have a good run at Wimbledon. However, the outcome of Henin-Hardenne, Clijsters, Davenport, and Sharapova finishing Number 1 is very likely.

I think Kim will make the final drive and push herself up one more ranking to get to that #1 spot. I think she will have another great summer and fall, so I pick her. Plus, I think shes gotten all her injuries out of her system. Laughing I don't know if that makes any sense, but it does in my mind! Maybe Mauresmo will get her share of injury because shes been healthy for so long! Just my superstition.

The thing is, Clijsters doesn't really have may points to gain the the US Open Series onwards. She would have to do extremely well in the clay court and grass court seasons in order to have a clear margin over the Number 1 ranking.

the only thing she can do is lose points....and if she gets a serious injury at wimbledon and misses the whole hardcourt season, then her ranking will plummet.....and she seems to be rusty.........LOTS of unforced errors in her matches as of late........

Yes....I'm not sure why, considering that her injury is gone.

I agree that whoever can stay healthy the longest will be the #1 ranked player at the end of the year. Mauresmo and Sharapova might be the favorites because they're usually very consistent and play quite a bit. But who knows? I'm pulling for Clijsters to get healthy and do very well at the final 3 majors.

I hope Kim Clijsters can stay healthy enough for the remainder of the season a put in a great run and at least win one of the remaining slams which could put her in a good spot to get back to the #1 spot by the end of the season.
