Being held just after a grand slam, none of the tournaments this week are very important. There are still some big names playing this week.

I was looking at some of the picks for the Open Romania and I can't believe Tursunov was the most picked player considering the tournament is on clay! It was a very difficult draw to pick from, but anyone is better than Tursunov. I picked Volandri in the end because he is a good claycourter and everyone else looks a bit shaky right now. The China Open should be a bit better. Davydenko would be the favourite, but I don't trust him alot. He just had a very good 3 weeks in the US, but after a good run of form he can go off so I didn't pick him. Ancic was my pick because he was playing very well and was unfortunate to get injured. I think he has an easy draw after his first round against Lopez.

The women's tier 3 event is probably the most interesting this week, in Bali. Kuznetsova is the top seed, and will most likely face defending champion Davenport in the semis. They are the only top 60 players in the top half! The bottom half has Ivanovic, Hantuchova and Schnyder. Davenport is also playing doubles this week for the first time since Wimbledon 2005. She plays with her good friend Corina Morariu. The former Wimbledon champions are ranked 10033!

I agree about the Tursnov thing. Even though he is the #1 seed his game isn't built for clay and it's not his best surface. Good luck to Davenport! Very Happy

glad to see Lindsay playing doubles. that must mean she is feeling healthy and ready again. they will both be favorites, together they are surely one of the best doublea teams in the world.

Tursonov is on 'high' as the resident blogger of the ATP. So I felt that he will do well.

I also picked Ljubicic in China since he had a good 2-week rest during the USO!! Shocked

I doin't know what's up with Ljubicic. He plays a solid first half of the season, and now he's back to his old self. Confused

China Open Update:

Fifth-seeded Dominik Hrbaty needed just 64 minutes to beat South African Rik de Voest 6-1, 6-0 for a place in the China Open second round on Monday.

Hrbaty recorded his 21st win of the season with a total of six break points. The Slovak, currently No. 42 in the INDESIT ATP 2006 Race, will next meet either Austrian Alexander Peya or Ramon Delgado of Paraguay.

Sixth-seeded Thai Paradorn Srichaphan, a semifinalist in Beijing two years ago, defeated Rainer Schuettler of Germany 6-3, 6-3. Srichaphan, currently No. 58 in the INDESIT ATP 2006 Race, improves his season record to 20-23 with one semifinal finish at the Pacific Life Open, an ATP Masters Series event in Indian Wells.

Eighth-seeded Hyung-Taik Lee, a quarterfinalist at ATP events in s’Hertogenbosch and Delray Beach in 2006, advanced with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Russian Igor Kunitsyn in 66 minutes.

Danai Udomchoke, playing his first ATP-level event since losing in the Washington first round to Kenneth Carlsen last month, overcame a slow start to beat Switzerland’s Marco Chiudinelli 0-6, 6-2, 6-3.

In other action on day one, American Kevin Kim knocked out Kristian Pless of Denmark 6-2, 6-4 in 54 minutes with three breaks of serve.

Italian Stefano Galvani knocked out Yen-Hsun Lu 6-3, 7-6(4) for just his 13th career victory in 36 ATP-level matches. Meanwhile, Yeu-Tzuoo Wang, who lost to Roger Federer in the US Open first round, defeated Chinese wild card Xin-Yuan Yu 6-1, 6-4.

Good win over Pless. Pless has some game

That is great news! The only player I can think of troubling her now is Kuznetsova in the semis, but Lindsay would still be a strong favourite for that match.

Davenport and Morariu won their first doubles match 6-3 6-1! In the QF, they play the 4th seeds Bremond/Voskoboeva. Davenport just beat Voskoboeva in the singles aswell Very Happy

Ancic also continues his comeback by reaching the QF in Beijing.

Davenport and Morariu shouldn't have a problem with Bremond/Voskoboeva. A great event for Lindsay.

I'm happy Davenport's doing this well. Hope this type of play will stay with her for the next few years.

I would LOVE to see her get another doublea Slam. alas, there is no way her body could stand up to the rigors of both singles and doubles. maybe she will pull a Martina on us and come back to play doubles at 40!

That would be really good, but I don't think she would stick around to play doubles and not singles. She should have a doubles grand slam as she has been runner-up at the A.Open 7 times I think.
