As the "What Song Are You Listening To" threads have been invaded multiple times, might as well just start one devoted to classical music. Laughing

Anybody play French Horn here?

... and PSALT, trumpet better than the clarinet? Wanna fight about it? Laughing Trumpet is a nice instrument... it's impossible to compare the two.

Is French Horn really that hard? Our horn players can't really seem to control certain notes. Confused

French horn is apparently one of the most difficult instruments to play. To players in my band crack a lot, especially up high.

choke your own bile, you fat whore, the trumpet is so much better.

lol! I am kidding. I was bored earlier and was having a conversation with blocparty about insults. he is great, he tells people he doesn't like that he is sending them anthrax for Christmas, I was cracking up. Laughing

the trumpet is so clear and simple. there aren't all those undertones. it's great because of it's simplicity. Smile

Hm, I think it was a tie between oboe and FH. My friend plays oboe and she sounds like a kazoo seriously. Embarassed

yes!!! you must have a wonderful ear to play the horn. it's like the trumpet and other brass instruments in that one hand position has many different notes, only a hell of a lot harder. it has a beautiful tone. I truly believe it is the hardest instrument in an orchestra. I played it for a year back in 5th grade. I was the only player (it is a small school), so I ended up switching to the trumpet the following year where there were more players.

My problem with many people playing the trumpet (and the saxaphone) is that it's just so loud!

I think all instruments are equally as difficult when you get to an advanced level. When one's a beginner, I have a theory that one can play any instrument terribly, but it's just various instruments maximize that terrible tone (oboe, french horn, or even violin/cello/viola). French horn cracks, violin/cello/viola screeches and scratches, and the beginning oboe, well....

Well, I think playing the French horn at age 5 wasn't the best choice... like, at that age, you don't have the air or mouth support to play the French horn... I absolutely hate it when the French Horn (or any instrument) plays out of tune by the slightest bit. I'm a clarinet player, so I always get these alto saxophone players belting out, and it's just so out of tune, I shiver. Confused

I despise the sax, I almost made fun of people who played it saying it was a deformed trumpet. above all though, I hate the percussion with a passion. they are a mere ornament in 99% of everything they play in, yet act like everything revolves around them.

yes. for the first year or so trumpets have a tendancy to dominate the sound of the orchestra. it is a great instrument though. Haydn's trumpet concerto is wonderful.

Percussion is actually quite important, but our percussionists aren't snobbish about it, so it's fine. Laughing Like in Danse Bacchenale, the triangle and timpani are very important. Adds a whole new dimension.
