I in a Seniors USTA League. I wondered how can I pace myself so we only go two sets and not have to go three. Serious answers only. Wink

I read some literature about hypnosis which helps in many areas of your tennis game including pacing, etc.

I played the match and constantly reminded myself to pace my game. Over and over again I said it. (silently) We won 6-4, 64. I hardly double faulted and felt much more relaxed. Even at the time in the 2nd set when we were tied, I continued to pace myself. Although I felt like hitting some aces, I didn't. And I even told my partner who was tiring and starting to overhit about pacing. I could see it was working for her too.

Never too old to learn new things in tennis. Why I love the game.

Surprised

That's wonderful. I think one of the most overlooked aspects of the game is precisely that: pacing. That was one of the things that made Andre Agassi so special: he had the ability to pace himself so that his opponent would tire out first; it became a weapon.

aw! fine, I will stick to serious answers. Wink

I don't know your physical shape, but pacing is always important. Not only will you tire out if you are constantly going for aces and big shots, the chances of winning that shot aren't great (unless you are a freak of nature like Federer). the best advice I can give you is play smart, contruct points, get your opponent on the move without tiring yourself out (a la drop shots, angles, and getting to net). another way to pace yourself is to do a "Sharapova", after a point turn around and pick at your strings whatever, you can't take forever, but it is a good way to catch your breath and sometimes make your opponent rush things, resulting in errors.
