Hello guys - I am back! This week I am going to be discussing some more actions on the WTT tour at Hobart, the Tier III tournament in Australia. Last week we saw Steffi Graf start of the tour with a title while Ana Ivanovic came up just short as the Runner-up. Those two, thanks to their efforts at Gold Coast, have received byes for the first-round!
Svetlana Kuznetsova, Martina Hingis and Amelie Mauresmo all looked impressive down under but will they be experimenting as seen as this is a Tier III? We are now only two weeks away from the first Grand Slam, the Australian Open, and I know that most of the girls will want to test out some strategies and get a couple of wins under their belt in preparation for that tournament. Let's take a look at all of the first round action!
Justine Henin vs (6) Lindsay Davenport - well Lindsay looked really impressive in the two matches we have seen her play, she lost only to world number 2 Ana Ivanovic which is no crying shame. I think Lindsay will want to get what she deserves; a win and a good tournament run here at Hobart, so I expect her to fly out of the blocks to beat the wily Belgian!
(8 ) Amelie Mauresmo vs Martina Navratilova - well it's a tough first round this for Martina Navratilova who got a poor draw last week too. Amelie is a great player and looked extremely impressive against Venus last week so I have to say the frenchwoman in two!
Maria Kirilenko vs (3) Martina Hingis - well in this battle of the Marias, oh wait it's Martina Hingis , well in this battle of the Maria and Martina it will be a really hard-fought contest. Kirilenko got off to a poor start last week but she ran into an incredibly fierce Svetlana Kuznetsova. So it is really hard to judge her potential. I cannot predict this one...it is too close!
Serena Williams vs (4) Svetlana Kuznetsova - well Kuzy was on fire last week...how about another 6-0 6-0 anyone? Although she might struggle to break the American's serve, but probably not with those groundstrokes!!
(5) Kim Cljisters vs Venus Williams - Cljisters looked very good in her win over Ai Sugiyama at Gold Coast and I think she will have too much firepower for Williams; Kim in two.
Ai Sugiyama vs (7) Elena Dementiev - it has to be the spirited Russian? The Queen of the comebacks? Doesn't it? Yes...Elena is going to overwhelm the fighting Jap!
Ana Ivanovic and Steffi Graf
Well I feel I have to mention this rivalry between our two tour divas! We have only had one tournament but you can feel a real sense of passion and heat when these two play each other. Ana has come off the worst in their one meeting; especially given all the hype that Steffi managed to crucify her in the first set!
Ana has also been up to a few tricks claiming that Steffi is sleeping with the tour director (she can't be, because I am) and even going as far to suggest that her draws are rigged. The latter I know isn't true either, I am also sleeping with the draw maker and I saw him do it; it was very fair. I am not a slut.
Anyway, I think Steffi has the edge up to now but Ana will no doubt put in some extra training and refine her gameplan to try and beat the German if they meet once more in the Final. There is a lot of opposition in their way though and all of those girls will be out to get that big-mouth Ana probably!
May the best player win at Hobart! But I know who my money's* on

I got the shittiest draw ever. I think it is rigged. I will play either Lena, where I will need to watch her late in sets, then maybe Kuzy or Serena, who will look to blow me off the court. Kimmy better take them out! _________________

Don't worry PSALT; Ana is good enough to prevail...probably !

Hobart Round of 16: Justine Henin vs (6) Lindsay Davenport
Lindsay Davenport (6) dfts Justine Henin 6-2 7-6
Great match from Lindsay, especially her first set. The scoreline does mask the closeness of the match though. So many games went to deuce and yet again Justine should feel hard done by! She has received really difficult draws and is soooo close to finding the right touch. The second set was a marvellous spectacle and Justine should just carry on finding her feet and soon she will get some wins under her belt, no doubt! _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

Urg, maybe joining FWTL wasn't such a great idea, I am clueless with 100 points. _________________ www.freewebs.com/tenniswallpapers by myself and x.doublea

Hobart Round of 16: Amelie Mauresmo (8 ) vs Martina Navratilova
Amelie Mauresmo (8 ) dfts Martina Navratilova 0-6 6-4 7-5
Ok...Martina, I know, is going to be a little disheartened by this results but it really was a brilliant match. Martina needs to look over her first and third sets and combine them! She has the necessary components in both but she needs to find the right balance! Martina just flew out of the blocks but Amelie, calm as ever, just took the rough with the smooth and showed what a top quality player she is!¬ _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

No leftys you are right up there! Just keep tinkering, you have time before the Australian to sort your game out...you are really close _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

Hobart Round of 16: Maria Kirilenko vs (3) Martina Hingis
Martina Hingis dfts Maria Kirilenko 5-7 7-6(4) 6-4
Superb! Really entertaining this one. Maria didn't do too much wrong and she will be a thread in the coming weeks but Martina was supremely consistent and didn't make any errors what so ever. Maria seemed as though she had the Swiss Miss worked out in the first set but then didn't reproduce that form quite to the same level in the second and third sets! Great effort though! _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

Hobart Round of 16: Serena Williams vs (4) Svetlana Kuznetsova
Serena Williams dfts (4) Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4 3-6 6-4
Wow...Serena went toe-to-toe with Svetlana and actually managed to come out on top! She served supremely well and Svetlana's hitting was actually muted the diva, great performance; she might be a threat this week!
