Hello, guys! It is me, Annabel, your beloved and favourite Sport's analyst. The nice guys over at Eurosport have asked me to be your official "previewer" for all of the tournaments this season on WTT! Aren't you thrilled? Well, let's not waste any time; we'll get down to business and have a look at this week's action at Gold Coast!
As seen as all of these players are new to the tour I can only base my opinions on what I have seen in practice and the one exhibition I had the chance to see between Ana Ivanovic and Lindsay Davenport. I will go through and analyse firstly all of the first round matches and then who I consider to be the main contenders for the title and that coveted number one spot! Here we go guys...
Justine Henin v Elena Dementieva - well this is a tough one. Justine is a really smart player with a lot of subdued potential but Elena is such a terrific fighter, even if she is a little streaky. I think Justine might just have what it takes to outfox the inconsistent Elena though; I favour her in three!
Serena Williams v Martina Hingis - definitely Serena all the way, I love her game and I can't see Martina stopping her. She will pound her way to victory and should go deep in the tournament.
Amelie Mauresmo v Venus Williams - I fancy Amelie in this one. She is gunna get to net and put Venus on the back foot where she doesn't like to be. I say the frenchwoman in three.
Kim Cljisters v Ai Sugiyama - no contest here I am afraid...Kim in two!
Svetlana Kuznetsova v Maria Kirilenko - Sveta is the more experience of the two, for sure, but I fancy an upset here. I think the consistency of Kirilenko will mean she outlast the hard-hitting Russian; a close match, but with "little Masha" just coming out on top.
Martina Navratilova v Ana Ivanovic - Martina needs a zimmer frame out there...ooops are we still on air? I mean Ana will surely have too much power for the aging Martina? Ana in two!!
The Contenders:
I think Steffi Graf has to be the favourite. I was watching her yesterday in practice and she looked mightily impressive. She will face some stiff opposition in round two, probably from the wily Belgian, but if she sees her off then it could well be the first tour title for the German.
Lindsay Davenport and Ana Ivanovic are definitely the other two to look out for. These two up-and-comers had a massive battle in an exhibition last week and they both looked really impressive. Lindsay prefers the Rebound Ace so I think we could well see a Steffi v Lindsay Final.
Good luck ladies... _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

Lol...Annabel Croft...have you not seen the big thread of "The official Dubai Annabel Croft Hate Thread" over at wtaworld? She is a commentator/presenter on eurosport and is absolutely hilarious. She gets a lot of haters because she always makes mistakes and is very embarassing...I thought given the recent attention I would use her as my "previewer"...that is why I wrote half of it in such a cheesy/annabelish style!!!
leftys will get it... _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

OMG, Annabel Croft. You do need to seem a lot more clueless about tennis though NEA. _________________ www.freewebs.com/tenniswallpapers by myself and x.doublea

Maria Sharapova is yet to even post surface preference so I think you will end up with a bye in your first round Lindsay!
Also, Martina Navratilova has not sent points, which is strange because x.doublea has been online quite a lot recently, so Ana you may also have a BYE.
Apart from that I pretty much have all of the points which is good news. _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

Well the deadline is up but I am going to wait a while until I hear from x.doublea because he is online now and might send points for Martina. Results for RD16 will be tonight regardless, probably quite soon.
And, on a side note, dav you might want to check out RLTA: I just posted the doubles Final results _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

RD16 coming up right now...there may be some surprises guys, the PC Players actually handled themselves quite well! _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

Gold Coast Round of 16: Elena Dementieva vs Justine Henin
Elena Dementieva dfts Justine Henin 7-6(3) 6-4
A resilient performance from Elena; she was down 5-0 in the first set but came back to win it on the tie-break. Justine just got unlucky today, although I would say she needs a tiny bit more consistency to her game and certainly needs to review her first set after 5-0. It was a little patchy. If she is to built a lead like that she needs to take advantage of it. Saying that, though, Elena just played her best tennis when she was down...something we will come to expect from her. Good match! _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

Gold Coast Round of 16: Serena Williams vs Martina Hingis
Martina Hingis dfts Serena Williams 7-5 5-7 7-5
Martina just played a smart match; she was consistent and took advantage of Serena's errors. She struggled to break Serena but managed it with some clever drop shots at the end of sets, when Williams was particularly tired. _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

Gold Coast Round of 16: Amelie Mauresmo vs Venus Williams
Amelie Mauresmo dfts Venus Williams 7-5 4-6 7-5
A great performance from Amelie. She was immaculate on her serve; coming to net and putting Venus on the backfoot (just like Annabel predicted) and was extremely consistent throughout. Good match.
