I think he will continue his reign and challenge at the Grand Slam. His game isn't one that is strenuous on the body and barring a freak accident, he should remain healthy for at least 2 more years. Nadal needs to vastly become more aggressive on hardcourt or just generally faster surfaces like he did at Wimbledon this year if he wants to challenge for the top. _________________ www.freewebs.com/tenniswallpapers by myself and x.doublea
GS winners of 06! Mauresmo(AO, Wimbledon), Henin-Hardenne(FO), Sharapova(USO), Federer(AO, Wimbledon, USO), and Nadal(FO)
I have to, regrettably, agree. Infact, next year may very well be the best of his career. We'll have to see... the thing is, this year, during the claycourt season, Nadal was overshadowing him, but Federer was practically gaining points on Nadal at the same time. He can do the same coming year.... _________________ "Satan is behind Illegal Immigration."- Don Larson, Utah County Republican Tennis Wallpapers, presented by leftys_rock and myself
Unfortunately, he will make men's tennis boring for a few more years at least.
Doublea, Federer can't keep gaining points on Nadal like he did this season. Federer plays four major clay events. Roland Garros, Monte Carlo, Rome, and Hamburg. He is the finalist in three of the four, so unless he beats Nadal in them, he will stay where he's at. Technically, I would say Nadal has a better chance for No.1 thois year over last. He didn't play at the Aussie last season, so he could get a big chunk of points there. Besides Dubai he didn't gain a whole lot of points on hardcourts before the clay season. After the clay season, Wimbledon is the only thing he must worry about defending. After that, he will gain points like crazy. _________________
You're absolutely correct, but I think next year might see Federer winning those matches he lost to Nadal on clay... that Rome, Monte Carlo, and Roland Garros final for instance... if Federer can win those matches against Nadal, than he's set, unfortunately. _________________ "Satan is behind Illegal Immigration."- Don Larson, Utah County Republican Tennis Wallpapers, presented by leftys_rock and myself
I think Federer will win Roland Garos but NOT get the GS. He will miss out in NY, even Wimby... nah... no Wimby, he will loose in NY to one of the young guns (Gasquet, Djorkovic, Murray or Baghdatis)
None theless he will continue to dominate and Nadal will also gain more points. So if youthink this year was only a two-horse race wait till next year. It will be worse...
I don't think Roger will make the Grand slam. But I don't doubt he will keep his nce where it is. Roland Garros is the place where he is still weakest. Nadal has that mental edge on clay. But I wouldn't be surprised of Federer get's one over Nadal on clay before RG _________________
The last year may have only served to motivate him even more.
He and Nadal were clearly the two best on clay this year.
If that trend continues and he doesn't come over his backhand to Nadal on clay he will probably win Roland Garros.
The only bump, except for injury is if he runs into a hot..and I mean hot Safin or some other big server with exploding groundings who can volley (and in this sport that person could be just around the corner) at one of the other Majors then he's in trouble, but aside from that he very well may get the Grand Slam in '07.
I'd love to see anyone get the Grand Slam in '07...I saw Steffi win the French, Wimbly, U.S. Open and the Olympics in '88 and for me...its time for someone to make that mark again.
