Hi everyone, it's x.doublea again. I'm happy a lot of you have enjoyed my first blog, so I'll try to make this one just as enjoyable to read!
I woke up early, for I had to play in one of the first matches of the French Open. So, I ate for only a reletively small breakfast at the hotel, and went straight to Roland Garros stadium, where I met up with stevos14 to have a quick (and light) 15 minute warmup on one of the practice courts. After the small session, we both returned to the change room, and were told that our matches would get underway soon. Stevos14 was drawn to play Duke in the first round, and I was drawn to play newcomer Fluffernutter. We then parted ways to our assigned lockers.
By the time I got there and changed my shirt, I was to have already started making way for the court where my match was going to be played! So I basically took my bags and ran to the area where I was going to escorted to the court. So, I was panting before the match began!
Luckily, for me, by the time Fluffernutter and I got to Court #6, I was 'reenergized', and 55 minutes later, I returned to the change rooms, since I beat Fluffernutter in a surprisingly comfortable 6-1, 6-2 win.
The next match I played in was against the World Number 5, Yodavitch. I had some confidence heading into the match, since N_E_A had beaten him in a recent tournament, but I came out flat, losing service on the very first game. I came close on several occasions in breaking back, but everytime I was close to breaking him, he fired a winner with his superb forehand. So, I lost the first set 4-6.
Determined to not lose the French Open so early, I stepped my game up to another level. However, Yodavitch had also, so we entered a tiebreak, when Yodavitch seemed to actually be tight, and I easily took the tiebreak 7-2. The final set was very similar to the second, although this time, Yodavitch played some fine tennis in the tiebreak, and I fell just short, 10-8.
Although I'm disapointed, I have to say I'm happy with my clay court season. I have won a title on clay and I have nearly beat the World Number 5 on my least natural surface. Despite my slight satisfaction, I have to say, after playing for the last few tournaments on clay, I'm really, really looking forwards to the grass court season! I'll probably play in the Johansson Cup in Sweden to open the short season up.
So, I showered, cleared my locker and headed back to the hotelin peace. If I were someone as famous as Tricatrina, who lost to J-Man in the second round, I would be bombarded with media and questions. However, I'm lucky enough (if you can call this lucky!) to not be that well known yet, so I basically had a clear pathway back to the hotel.
After I returned to the hotel and ate at the restaurant (I know, I've been eating a lot at this restaurant!), I went back to my room, and basically jumped onto the bed. I took a look at the tickets I had purchased for tomorrow night's opera. I then turned on the television and went to the news channel, right when the newswoman said, "Les membres de l'Opéra de Paris a commencé un grève parce qu'ils n'ont pas contente avec Gérard Mortier, la directeur de l'Opéra de Paris": The members of the Paris Opera have gone on strike because they aren't happy with the director of the Paris Opera, Gérard Mortier. I basically yelled out, "YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING! BECAUSE YOU'RE NOT HAPPY WITH A CONDUCTOR? GIVE ME A BREAK!" So, the ticket I bought for tomorrow's opera is merely a souvenir now.
Since I was afraid that I would get complaints from the people staying in rooms next to me, I quickly packed, went downstairs, checked out, and went on my way to Charles du Galle airport, and bought a ticket to Stockholm, where I would play at the Johansson Cup. Unfortunately, the next flight to Stockholm would be at 7 o'clock, and it was only 4 o'clock! So, the next three hours were very boring: I ate a snack, went through those annoying customs procedures, and fell asleep admist all the boredom I was suffering from. Luckily, the plane had tennis highlights of the French Open, and it was here that I learned that J-Man had gotten himself all the way to the final, which is incredible for someone who has only been playing for one-and-a-quarter seasons. Although he lost to John Edelstein, he clearly won the fan's love and popularity.
I got to Stockholm at 10 o'clock, and I went straight to the hotel the tour was accomidating for players playing in the Johansson Cup.
I just took a shower, and I'm really tired right now from the hectic day I've had, so I'm going early to bed now. Thanks for reading my blog today, and I hope it wasn't too long!
