I have developed a bad habit in swinging on the forehand volley. I'm not talking about a swinging volley, just a normal volley. Does anyone have any drill or solution to eliminating the swing from the volley entirely? I know it's a problem, and despite my telling myself to not swing, I still do.

Oh this is probably the more difficult of the volleys. For the high volleys, I always drive it (I love that shot). Volleys are the hardest to practice because it is hard to rally with them, and you can't hit off a wall to practice them.

When you get a forehand volley, slow everything down in your mind and just focus on the ball. Don't rush or panic....take your time. Hold the racquet up in front of you. As you get the volley, take the racquet straight to your right and cut the ball. Your arm should be in a v-shape (elbow bent). Just cut through the ball and don't follow through.

I'm not sure if that will help you too much. I don't know of any drills. I think a good way to practice them is get another person and just volley softly together in the service box. That should help you get the technique.

Thanks Dave, I'll try that out. Yes, the forehand volley is the more difficult of the two. My backhand volley is excellent, but my forehand volley is really so-so. Perhaps hitting against a wall might help out, since you can't swing on the volley when hitting against the wall.

have someone feed balls to your forhand volley while your back is up against the fence.

Thanks, that seems to be a great solution. Very Happy I suppose the objective is to avoid from hitting the fence....
