Since there are not over 64 Fantasy Tennis players, the draw is not out of 128 like the real grand slams, but rather 64. This means that players who lose in the first round of a grand slam in Fantasy Tennis receive 38 points, which is more than winning a match in a Tier IV event. Because of this, it is difficult for new players to catch up in the rankings since they are missing free 38 points given out four times per season regardless of ability. Should these points be removed? It will be worse for first round losers, but I believe will be much better overall for the league and will encourage more members to join. Stevos14 is still miles behind Harriet purely based on his late join. What are your thoughts on this?

I think that there should be just 1 point for losing in the 1st round, and 1 point for losing in the 2nd round if you had a bye. I think points should be given only for winning matches, not byes.

It will actually be 2 points (that is how it is in real life) for losing in the first round in a grand slam. I'm not sure about the bye thing, because there are some players, because of a higher rank, get a bye but then have to play a seed (top 16 player), while others get a chance to beat a low ranked player in the first round.

Oh sorry, I thought it was 1...

About the byes, I think it is more fair to have no points for it, because a guranteed 38 points is better than a chance to beat a lower-ranked player. It isnt very fair to get 38 points without having won a match...

However, it is very difficult for someone to beat a top player, so they are therefore "punnished" for being ranked higher than other players. The bye is a reward for doing well previously, so in no way should these players be punnished for doing well. I mean, is it fair for someone ranked 20th to have to play John Edelstein in the round of 32 (after getting a bye), and get no points, when someone ranked 34th gets to play someone ranked 36th for points. That is even more unfair. Plus, in regular tournaments (just like the real pro tour) players get points for the byes, so in grand slams I don't think it should be different. The main point though is that we want to attract more members and they may get bored/frustrated in the fact that they are so far behind point-wise. We want more players!

I agree. Look at NEA compared to the rest of the members. NEA has got a bye in every slam, few other members ever had. So we routinely perform better than him in slams because he faces top 20 people in the first round.
It simply would not be fair to give him 1 point because he lost to a top player after getting a bye. Look at the USO, NEA got a bye and lost to Aztec. I didn't get one and faced Harriet in the first round. I easily beat her, so shoud I get more points than NEA because I was lucky enough to face our punching bag?

Well that wont be in effect say in a month as we would have all caught up and be top 20 players ourlselves. NEA is 22 in the rankings, so it's not that bad...I think players should only get points if they win a match. The players that dont get byes arent guranteed points, they may loose the match. To have the player with byes guranteed 3rd round points is unfair in my opinion...

Exactly. It is a reward to get a bye, and so you do get free points. That is just how it works. I do think though that I will remove all first round points (except the 2), and this may effect the rankings a bit. However, the season 1 final rankings are what they were when it officially ended (which is the same as right now).

PSALT and admin are 110% correct. I hated having a BYE in the first round, absolutely hated...never ever won a GS match.

dav I fail to see your reasoning for this.

Higher ranked player gets a BYE...even if they do not want one. Why should they be punished? They have made it into the second round therefore they should get those points. It is not their fault. It is in no way correct. I think it should all stay as it is, personally, DEFINITELY the byes I am not too bothered about the other thing.

Is that the way they do it in real tennis? If it is, then fine...

I just think it is weird that I was 4-4 in grand slams, and you were 0-4, and we get the same ranking points...it's not easy being high-ranked you know!

Yes, but I never had the chance to be 4-4!!! It was unfair on me, NOT you. I did not get the chance to win a match, believe me I wanted too. I am the one who is ranked highest and believe me it is annoying in some respects, yet I would still choose it over being ranked lower.

Who knows, if I were in your position I might well be 4-4. I never got that chance though! It defies ALL logic, to take points away from the seemingly better players because they are higher in the rankings! Makes no sense.

Alright here's the vertict:
All first round-loss points will be taken away (except for 2) before season 2 begins, however BYES still count for points.

I think this is a good idea. In regular 64-player draws, the first round is 1 or 2 points worth, so it's safe. However, in the ATP, I think if you have a bye and lose the second round match, you only receive credit of a first round loss.
