Italy leads 1-0, after Schiavone beat Flipkens (replacing Clijsters) 6-1, 6-3.

Who would have thought... perhaps this Fed Cup will come down to this (assuming Klipkens loses and Henin-Hardenne wins):

R5 - L.BUTKIEWICZ / C.MAES (BEL) vs M.SANTANGELO / R.VINCI (ITA)

No offense to the Italian team, but if Italy wins FC, it is for Fed Cup. Really shows how much the top players care for it.

I think Italy are still going to win. Pennetta should win the next singles match, and Santangelo/Vinci are better players than the Belgian team.

The final rubber is on now.

Kirsten Flipkens/Justine Henin-Hardenne v Francesca Schiavone/Roberta Vinci. The Belgians currently lead 4-3 on serve.

This could be a very long match. Has anyone seen the venus for the final, it looks really modern....

They have won the first set 6-3. Are there any pictures? I would like to see. Smile

That is the worst ever time to retire in a match, the final of the Fed Cup. This injury must have been career threatening or very painful to retire from such a big match. I don't know what happened though.
