#1 seed Vaidisova was bounced and now Serena has lost by retirement to Yung-Jan Chan. Shocked Venus won comfortably though. Golovin won as well.

Poor Charleston. Sad

Right groin strain. She said she got it during her practice session on Monday.

Oh that's rough. It could have bad implications for the rest of the clay court season.

I saw a quick glance of a highlight of it on match point. The chair umpire had to get out of her chair to confim that Jelena had won the match or something

Yep, to confirm that her backhand up the line was a winner.

Jankovic won 6-2, 6-2. It was pretty ugly in the final since it was so windy, but Jankovic was really solid throughout.

I saw that coming... somehow I expected her to win again soon because she has been playing good lately. I picked her to win last week, but it looks that Ana Ivanovic has her number!

This week, after all the withdrawals, it was obvious that she would make the most of it.

Ivanovic is simply a more talented player. Jankovic is more consistent, but on any surface, if Ivanovic plays well, she will win. Jankovic is overrated. She has played every single week but two this year, she is the WTA's personal Davydenko. She will always be ranked high on the back of 10+ more events than the top players. Then she will win the big events that are empty of any top players. She is a living example of the problem with the rankings, quantity is enough to get by with.

I disagree somewhat. Jankovic has something extra that most players do not have. Not sure what it is, but she seems to have that little extra spirit. She is the perfect example of a solid all-around player; not many weaknesses. She has the ability to beat any top player if they have an off day or are not playing their best (i.e. Venus). Obviously if Ivanovic or any extremely talented player is "on" she has no chance. Yet I think she deserves a top 10 ranking because of her results since Wimbledon. Many people would have not been able to take advantage of bad days from players like Venus (at Wimbledon) and others, but she doesn't really fear anything. I don't particularly like her that much, and she does play tons of tournaments which really helps to boost her ranking up, but she's no Petrova, Schnyder, or one of those players. She's got some sort of edge.

look at her schedule up until Wimbledon,

Fed Cup
REST 1 Week (surprised she is not playing Budapest)
Warsaw
Berlin
Rome
Strasbourg
Roland Garros
-
Ordina
Wimbledon

so, right now, at BEST, she will play every week but FOUR throughout the first half of the season. she will either,

1) Get injured
2) Burnout and retire early

she is better than Schynder, for sure. she is not deserving of this No.6 in the world she has right now though. she is good, I do not deny that, but she is more deserving of 12-8. she has a lot of belief in her game, and a solid one, but she is not a player that will ever be able to beat the top players more than a couple of times in her career. she simply doesn't have the talent that Vaidisova, Ivanovic, Golovin, or even Peer have.

I agree that she is not like Ivanovic, Vaidisova, etc. And she does definately overbooks and gets a lot of points for that. But she's like Peer in the sense that she doesn't have the brilliant shots, but has something else that allows her to win, maybe something mentally. Still, she will remain ranked high because she plays so much. That's just the trouble with the ranking system and it always has been.
