This is a cobined ATP (International Series) and WTA (Tier 4) claycourt tournament in the Portuguese resort of Estoril.

Both defending champions (Gaston Gaudio and Lucie Safarova) are not returning to Estoril this year. There have already been many injuries. Tommy Robredo has pulles out, along with Nicolas Almagro, Gilles Simon and Victor Hanescu.

Nalbandian (2002), Davydenko (2003), Moya (2000) are playing. Davydenko beat Vincent Spadea for his first claycourt season win this season. Monfils thrashed Razvan Sabau. Also, Justin Gimelstob, one of the few Americans who is playing a full claycourt season, went through.

The WTA event is a lower tier, so not many top names. But, Pennetta, Dulko and Dominguez-Lino are the top seeds. Paola Suarez also made a successful comeback winning her first match.

Thoughts on this event?

I did. It was entertaining, even though he seemed to have lots to say.

Yes, he has gone a bit over the top with his blog. At least he is making an effort though.

I hate his blog. Every other sentence ends with an exclamation point. you right, it is over the top. I think there have been better bloggers.

Where do you find all these blogs? They sound interesting. Any by more famous players, or not?

For more, go to 'Past Bloggers'. Each week, a player is selected to write a blog for their week at a tournament...

I agree...Every sentence is either in bold or has an exclamation mark. My favourite was the Ljubicic and Blake blogs (the only players to win the tournament they were blogging from).

Tursunov has written way too much. Good to see an effort, but this is quite bad...

Nikolay Davydenko has finally got his season back on track, beating Marat Safin for the first time in 3 matches this year to move to the QF.
He plays the on-form Gilles Muller. Justin Gimelstob has come back form a set down in both his matches, upsetting 7th seed Nicolas Massu, the recent Casablanca finalist. He now plays Albert Portas for a place in the SF. Other winners were Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, and the home player Frederico Gil, who beat Dmitry Tursunov.

Just a quick bit on Munich (no point making a topic now it is already Thursday)...I am very impressed by Ivo Karlovic, who has reached his 2nd consecutive clay QF (big suprise). He beat Tommy Haas in round 1!

I don't like Karlovic. He wouldn't be anything without that serve. He is as slow as a turtle, ugly useless groundstrokes, doesn't have a topspin backhand to speak of. His points consist of big serve, then start slicing until you can get into net, or slice return, then slice until you can get into net...
