I have no idea how Switzerland's going to win, even on a carpet court. Wawrinka cannot beat Nadal, Ferrer, Verdasco/Lopez in a single weekend! If I were the coach, I would be kicking Federer right now....

I agree. That is one of the reasons I like Andy, James, and the Bryans so much. They are willing to play for their country no matter what. Federer is only willing to do that when he can pencil it in.

Federer seems only to play to keep them in the World Group, and he never plays away matches. I may be completely wrong here, but I think he only plays to keep them in, so that when he retires people will say 'Federer kept Switzerland in the world group for 10 years (or whatever)'. He should play every tie, like all of the other top players. This will be another thing keeping him from being the greatest of all time.

Federer only cares about his PERSONAL legacy... he does not care about his country. Evil or Very Mad
He is now depriving us from a great Davis-cup tie. How many times does the draw bring No1 vs No2?

Federer's decision is just simply selfishness and self-greed. If he's an Agassi, or a Sampras, deferring because of age, I understand, but, come on, he's in the middle of his prime, with plenty of energy. Just shameful....

Apparently, Malisse is quite a streaky character, and can get into some bad relationships with others (if I remember correctly). And, plus, I don't think he's the type who would ever play as sort of a 'back up' for the Rochus brothers.

That's because they're the people who play for Belgium because Malisse doesn't play. And yes, Malisse would be the #1 singles player.

I agree. It doesn't look good for the swiss. Is this televised on TTC or otherwise??

Germany- Croatia looks like a good intresting match up. Ivan Ljubicic, Mario Ancic, Ivo Karlovic are a huge advantage for Croatia.

TTC is showing USA-Czech Republic (not sure if it will be live, VS might have the rights to show it live). They are also showing Germany-Croatia

Malisse has always had a very bad attitude on court. I remember he swore at some ballboys in Miami a couple of years ago, which is just the most classless and horrible thing to do. I think he received a fine or something after. No wonder people prefer the Rochus brothers. Belgium also have Kristof Vliegen, who is another up-and-coming player. They had the first all-Belgian final last year in Munich (O.Rochus v Vliegen), and both Rochus brothers have good doubles partnerships with each other and Vliegen. So they have a very good team already.

If Malisse sorts his attitude out (which he looks like he has), then they can become alot stronger. He actually won the French Open with Olivier Rochus a few years ago, so that would be a great partnership there aswell.
