Thoughts about 2006 for the women? Best moment? Best match? Thoughts for upcoming 2007? _________________ www.freewebs.com/tenniswallpapers by myself and x.doublea
GS winners of 06! Mauresmo(AO, Wimbledon), Henin-Hardenne(FO), Sharapova(USO), Federer(AO, Wimbledon, USO), and Nadal(FO)
Best Moment: Amelie Mauresmo wins Wimbledon, coming from behind to beat Henin!
Really not sure on best match, from what I have seen the RR clash between Henin and Mauresmo was of an oustanding quality and Amelie won, so that is perhaps my favourite match. I personally really enjoyed watching the USO Final Live, I have been working for a lot of the major Finals, including today's, so to stay up late and watch that one was good and the match itself I thoroughly enjoyed! _________________ Tennis is in the mind...

Clijsters Mauresmo in the SF of YEC I thought was pretty good as well. Some very nice points in that one. _________________ www.freewebs.com/tenniswallpapers by myself and x.doublea

Best moment was Mauresmo winning Wimby without a doubt. Truly nothing comes close.
Best match..... there a quite a few. Davenport-Henin AO QF was a good one, as was Mauresmo-Henin RR. Mauresmo-Serena at the USO was good too, even with the bagel set. That set was more great play from Serena than anything else. _________________
I would also add Henin-Myskina Eastbourne final. that was a very good match.
thoughts on 2007...... I hope it is better. I hope people stay healthy, and other people stop making up injury's. I also hope Davenport can come back, along with Serena and Venus. _________________
This year was truly awful compared to the excellent 2005 where we finally had all the top players playing well at the same time. This year has had only 3 or 4 players at the top (Mauresmo, JHH, Clijsters..and Sharapova towards the end). Everyone else had brief glimpses of fantastic form but had some horrible lapses in form (Kuznetsova at F.O., Dementieva in Tokyo and LA, Petrova during clay and indoor seasons). The comeback of Hingis was impressive, and I think everyone believes she belongs at the top. She needs to get a bit stronger physically, and get a bit more depth on the groundies and serve before 2007.
Best moments were Mauresmo winning Wimbledon (I haven't been that happy about a tennis result for a long time. I was so shocked she won, but it was a heart-warming win). It was good to have Kuznetsova and Myskina coming back to life in June (their match in Eastbourne was good, aswell as the final). I liked Hingis' good results. I was really happy when Lindsay came back strongly in NH, and saved mp's at the USO.
I think 2007 will be a battle between Mauresmo, JHH and Clijsters, and maybe Sharapova on the faster surfaces. I really hope this is not the case though. I want Hingis, Kuznetsova, Dementieva and Myskina to get right back to the elite. I want Pierce to recover as soon as she can. I would like to see S and V back. Most of all though, I want Davenport to be fully fit and make good runs at the slams and add a few more events onto her schedule. And Capriati and Seles to comeback!!!!
That would be a VERYVERYVERYVERYVERY crowed top 10 if you also add the fact that Vaidisova, Ivanovic, Golovin, Jankovic, Chakvetadze are up and coming. _________________ www.freewebs.com/tenniswallpapers by myself and x.doublea

They can all wait for a year, can't they?
They're not getting any younger!(hmm, well you could make that case for Linds, Jen, and Monica too )
I find it rather shocking that Vaidisova and King are still the youngest players in the top 100(I think). No new up and comers from the lower ranks? _________________ www.freewebs.com/tenniswallpapers by myself and x.doublea

I think that a large percentage of the top 100 is made up of young players, there's just not room for many more. I think Jen would have to start from scratch if she came back, and I have no idea where Monica would be.
Best moment of the year: Mauresmo winning Wimbledon over JHH
Worst moment of the year: Mauresmo winning AO over JHH
Funniest moment: Sharapova at the USO ceremony -
Worst part of the season: Consistent player withdrawals
My final rankings based on their results:
1) Mauresmo
2) JHH
3) Sharapova
4) Clijsters
All in all I thought it was a good year for many players.
Mauresmo finally getting her GS's AO and Wimbledon I thought was a highlight. Lost's of hard work over coming her nerves. Inspiring.
It was a good year also for JHH. Though she had her doubt at the AO final she made the end of the year a treat for winning YEC. Also defending her FO title with Nadal, also was a highlight for her.
Sharapova's 2 GS title at the Usopen. We were all wondering when is she going to do it when?! We all knew she could we just didn't know when
Hingis coming back on tour. And having sucess so qucikly and seeing her prove that she can still play at the professianal level of tennis. Plus seeing her reach ehr goal by competing at YEC.
The Billle Jean King national tennis center naming. What a great cermony to a very inovative person.
Martina Natrilova's last Usopen. She won the mixed doubles with Bob Bryan. Ending at the place where it started for her.
Also all of the up and comers having a great year such as Jankovic, Vadidsova, and many more.
Disspointments for me: The willamsa. Coming to AO unfit and all over the place, so to speak. Then arriving at (at least Serena) UsOPEN and looking fitter. The promising that she at least Serena (Venus did not play) was back and ready to play then not playing for the rest of the year.
Another one but understandable one is Davenport. I really would have liked to see her win a GS this year. But she was having injury problems in such. Maybe next year Lindsay.
The saddest moment for me in tennis this year that will always be remebered, would have to be the retirement of Andre Aggasi. He was gracious after his surprise lost afterwards giving a heart warming speech. And is gracious off the court with his charites and school. He will always be remebered for so much he did for the sport of tennis and society.
In general it was a great 2006 season fillled with triumphs and lows. But you take the good with the bad. I look foward to the 2007 tennis season and now there is much more to come from many players.
Get some rest! AO is just around the corner _________________
